I wrote the first draft of my Donovan McNabb outlook today. After looking at all my notes and numbers, I have to say there is a lot to be encouraged about.

He rushed for 166 rushing yards starting in Week 10, the third best among quarterbacks in the league.

While he didn't hit his 2006 peak at any point, nearly every passing number except touchdowns were towards the top of his career norms. He returned from ACL surgery with improved accuracy (rare) and made fewer mistakes (career best interception %, fourth best in the league).

Our last pick showed that if you are going to be a GM, you better be ready to take some heat for your pick. I'll say this: coming out of college, Darren McFadden and Adrian Peterson's profiles weren't so different. McFadden could be the best playmaker in this draft, and the Chiefs sure need playmakers. I'm not saying the Chiefs would make the move, but that's not what this draft is about. Anyhow, let's move on to the Jets, surprised to be drafting so high in year two of the Tangini era. If Sam Farmer wasn't such a well respected name in the journalism, this story about Favre returning would be easier to ignore. Okay, it still seems a little far-fetched. But the editors at NBC asked me to come up with five teams who would be interested in Favre if he returned. So what if it's all in fun and none of it is particularly likely to happen. It's April!

The fifth pick of our Mock draft creates the first shocker. It wouldn't be the first time the Chiefs surprised many with a first-round running back pick.

The Chiefs were hoping the Jake Long would fall to 5 but with the Raiders selecting him just ahead the Chiefs would try and trade out. Without a trade the Chiefs pull off the first shock of the draft and take Darren McFadden...

That didn't take long. With a likely suspension on the way, Henry might not be on an NFL roster until he joins the 2009 Bucs next summer.

Oakland seems like the first flashpoint of this year's draft. Al Davis could go a lot of ways here, and it will affect how the rest of the top-ten falls. Longtime friend of the program Stephen G has the honors.

With the #4 selection in the 2008 NFL draft the Oakland Raiders select: JAKE LONG, OT, Michigan

Possibly overused terms already, but simply put, Jake Long is the best player available and more importantly the SAFEST BET of all the top 5 picks (including Chris Long). Jake Long will be a franchise left tackle in the NFL for the next decade plus. He rates out on par or better than top 2007 Browns rookie Joe Thomas who was a resounding success last season.

It wouldn't be an NFL offseason without a Chris Henry mugshot. And this one is a doozy. We have to be careful in this media age not to convict someone based on initial reports, but this sure looks damning for Henry's future.

Commissioner Roger Goodell has shown with Pacman Jones that getting exonerated in court doesn't mean you avoid problems with the league. Henry was suspended for eight games last year and was on a "no tolerance" policy with the league. This arrest is likely enough to suspend him for a year in the eyes of the league.

Arthur Blank and the Falcons have a long road ahead of them. Not only do they need to rebuild their team after the unfortunate debacle of Michael Vick, they need to rebuild the relationship with the fans and season ticket holders. They made a great start by addressing the running back situation in free agency landing the highly coveted Michael Turner. It would be wise to continue to change the face of the organization and there’s no better position to do so than at quarterback.

Last year, I said it was insane to consider drafting Devin Hester. He looked better than I expected, but still was far from a fantasy option with 299 yards receiving and two scores.

I was more optimistic about his chances going into this season if he was given a chance to start, but it sounds like that isn't happening. Lovie Smith on Hester:
