The dumbest holdout ever?

He's not exactly Lewis (or Clark), but Lance Briggs may be exploring unchartered territory this offseason. He may be the first player to express displeasure about his contract the month after he signed it.

Briggs has already passed up $250,000 by skipping Chicago workouts. Maybe he just doesn't feel like going, but the Chicago Sun-Times thinks Briggs may not be happy with how much he got versus Calvin Pace. Let's hope this is untrue. The Bears were willing to pay Briggs more than any NFL team. He signed it a month ago!! This could lead to a whole new genre of annoying Rotoworld posts.

Pancake Blocks Mock Draft: Pick No. 25

Draft week is finally here. This draft has the most intriguein the top ten since the 2004 Eli/Rivers draft, so it should be a fun buildup. We're on the home stretch of our Mock with John W. picking for Seattle

There are three positions the Seahawks lack depth and strength in. Everyone would point to RB with the decline of Shaun Alexander and they are right. But with Mendenhall and Stewart not falling, they can wait to maybe find a diamond in the rough.

Line of the Week

Goes to Dr. Z's unnamed scout, when talking about Darren McFadden.

And now, we come to the biggest "Yes but" on the board. Darren McFadden, RB, Arkansas. Runs like the wind. Which keeps blowing him into nightclubs. Where, uh, misunderstandings occur, and next thing you know, certain individuals are getting printed and mugged. How high will he be drafted? Oh high ... high ... despite what scouts euphemistically refer to as "character issues."

Fumbling is another problem -- 23 times in the past three years, more than any other runner in the country.

"It's gonna be tough for him in the NFL," our U.S. says, "trying to hold onto the ball with handcuffs on."

Have a good weekend everyone.

Pancake Blocks Mock Draft: Pick No.24

If you liked debating about backfield committee's, you'll love this pick

The chatter you will hear when the Titans are on the clock will be the inevitable cries for a WR. I can already see Kiper pontificating about how the Titans need to add some weapons to aid in Vince Young’s development. I am even convinced that after watching Lendale plod for just over 1000yds and his receivers lumber through their routes, that smash mouth Jeff Fisher realizes he needs to add some speed and playmakers as well.

ATLiens update

Michael Jenkins is now on the bench

Fantasy Fix intern Brett Bandermark poked fun at Rotoworld earlier this week for giving Laurent Robinson's ascension to starter top story status in the middle of April. But I like the enthusiasm; we're hungry for some real NFL news.

Pancake Blocks Mock Draft: Pick No. 23

Pittsburgh up, with Matt G. making the pick. Matt took some heat for his comments about the Jonathan Stewart pick, although most of those comments came off looking worse than anything he wrote. At least people are passionate about the first annual Pancake Blocks Mock!

The facts everyone keys on:

- The Steelers gave up 47 sacks last year
- Their O-line is now sans Alan Faneca, a perennial pro bowler

Pancake Blocks Mock Draft: Pick No. 22

I know this draft is a hit when I get two emails telling me to hurry up and post the Dallas pick. So here goes, courtesy of Marv M.

Dallas should use this pick to select a running back.

They arguably have bigger needs in the secondary, but all of the cornerbacks worth taking this high have already been selected, and a safety can be acquired later.

The McNair Effect

I didn't expect Steve McNair to start many games in 2008, so the fantasy impact of his retirement is minimal. Baltimore's quarterback situation is shaky, but no shakier with him gone. It's sad to say about one of the game's true warriors over the last ten years, but the Ravens are probably better off.

I do think this guarantees Matt Ryan doesn't get past the Ravens pick. Even if Baltimore doesn't actually want him, other interested teams (Chicago? Carolina?) will assume they do and try to trade in front of the Ravens if Ryan slips past Atlanta and Kansas City.

Chad Johnson has bidders

Perhaps the most interesting part of the latest round of Ocho Cinco blather was Adam Schefter's note that Cincy has already received an offer of two first-day picks for Johnson. (Is that the old first day - three rounds - or the new first day of two rounds? I'm guesing the former).

If someone is offering that much before the draft, the price should go up on draft day. And that means the Bengals would have to consider the offer, even though I think he'll stay put. So is this mystery team? Here are my five best guesses based on ammunition (draft picks) and need.

Pancake Blocks Mock Draft: Pick No. 21

Couple quick thoughts before we get to the Washington pick. First, how weird is it to have a draft where Washington has extra picks? The Redskins have four picks in the first three rounds. They haven't had more than two since 2002. Second, our man James officially blew our word count out of the water. 250 words people! Since the information is good, I'll let it slide. Plus James is Canadian, and I like every Canadian I've ever met.

Not surprisingly for a team which has traditionally thrown foolish amounts of money at free agents with mediocre ability and has given away drafts picks in ill-advised trades, the Washington Redskins are thin
at many positions (in no particular order):
