What a day. Honestly I'm buried in other work (maybe taking this Managing Editor means way more responsibility. Hmmm ... ). But I can't pass up commenting on some of the big stories of the day. No matter how much my time is supposed to be spent on other things.
God bless Jeff Ireland if he was intentially messing with the media when he used the "pillar of defense" line. I still think he's just not experienced speaking publicly and it was a slip of the tongue.
I like how confident the Dolphins were that Jake Long was a left tackle. No doubt in their mind. They almost were incredulous at the line of questioning. I trust the judgement of Tony Sparano and Bill Parcells. And making Long the first pick as a left tackle makes more sense.
The only scenario in which I thought Matt Ryan would go third is if Jake Long and Glenn Dorsey went in the first two spots. That sure looks likely now unless the Rams decide Chris Long is their man. In a way, it's too bad. Ryan falling to the Chiefs/Jets/Ravens would create more intrigue at the top of the draft. There were trade possibilities and referendums on young quarterbacks like Kellen Clemens and Brodie Croyle. I'm probably getting ahead of myself. Perhaps Dorsey slips to three.
The Bengals are turning down a first and third-round pick for Chad Johnson. No matter what they are doing, they are doing it right. If they intend to keep Johnson, I can respect that. He will show up to play.
If they are just driving a hard bargain, it's working. I would not have thought Johnson's price would get so high, so fast. If it's this high on Tuesday, it might get real interesting on draft day.
Shaun Alexander's release usually would qualify as huge news. But his departure And from the Seahawks has been like his final season there: a slow death march. It's going to be real hard for him to find a starting job after this draft class is in the league.
Rotoworld now co-owns the NFFC. I guess I can't play anymore.
