Are the Jets hoping for Ryan?

NFL Network's Mike Mayock unveiled his new Mock Draft Friday, with a few surprises. I may discuss those later, but I wanted to mention something Mayock and two NFL Network analysts said Friday: That the Jets were hoping Matt Ryan fell to them at six.
It's surprising how little this has been said because the Jets do need a quarterback. There were high hopes about Kellen Clemens coming out of college, but his ugly first stretch as a starter raises serious questions. NFLN analyst Mike Lombardi doesn't believe Clemens can throw to the outside, especially in the Meadowlands. If the Jets brass truly believes they are safe through 2009 regardless, as their owner said, then Ryan makes a lot of sense if both rush linebackers are off the board.

Very interesting. I would think the Jets would be hesitant to invest Top Ten money in another QB But, at the same time, if he's on the board, you'd think they either try to swap picks with the Ravens (probably with the Ravens 4th - 5th rd pick added in)or, if they can't get that deal done, draft Ryan.

I dunno... If the Jets can get by in the Meadowlands with Chad Pennington's rubber arm for so long, can Clemens be any worse? I thought Mayock's mock was logical and well thought out. The only pick I thought was dubious was Ryan to KC at 5. Sure, KC needs a QB, but Herm hitched his wagon to Croyle and Ryan's not going to fix the running game or stop the run.
I think the QB position in this draft is starting to look like the 2005 version, with the two top rated guys being just average, when Alex Smith and Aaron Rodgers went in the first. Wouldn't the Niners love to have the Smith at 1.01 pick back...
What're the chances both Ryan and Brohm free-fall to the 2nd?

Pennington was successful because, as funny as it sounds now, but e had probably the best play-action move along side Peyton Manning. Clemens has none of that, he will have zero success as a starting QB in the NFL. Not one of his attributes are excellent, and he makes dumb mistakes. He will never be the franchise QB for the New York Jets, or any team for that matter. Not saying Ryan is the answer, but if Gholston, and McFadden are gone (pending all the obvious are off the board) then either a juicy trade would make sense, then, and only then would drafting Ryan would make sense. In my opinion of course

I think there is a real chance of Ryan falling a long way simply because the teams that need QB have other needs and may feel comfortable waiting until the Round 2 QBs.

If the Falcons don't take Ryan at #3, I will be shocked.

Stick with Kellen....let him take another season of learning lumps. Chad, God bless him, will never be the answer with his limited arm/play abilities.
