Opening Night
Japan is great, I love having baseball back and all (Opening Day was excellent, way better atmosphere than the preseason games) ... but this is a fantasy football blog. And it's back.
Today starts one of the most intense months of my football season, as I begin our magazine profiles and preparation into high gear leading into the NFL Draft, and then re-write half the thing.
I'm officially ready to let go of the '07 season now that we know the '08 opener: Redskins at Giants. I was hoping to see D.J. Hackett in this game, but he'll be with the Panthers (more on that later). It will be the first chance to see how New York divides up their running game, if the playoff Eli was for real, and how the Jim Zorn offense will look in Washington. Bring on the hype.

Comments
I'm with you, I was fully expecting DJ Hackett to be a Redskin. I was already skeptical with Jason Campbell's learning curve on yet another offense but now the skepticism is ten fold with the Skins lack of adding any big receivers to run the West Coast offense.
With the re-signing of Derrick Ward, the Giants backfield is beyond muddled with talent and injuries risk.

YES! Football talk is back!
The Redskins and Giants may be a great game for those on the East Coast, but that game doesn't have much sizzle as far as I'm concerned. I may be alone in this, but I believe the Giants will prove to be somewhat of a fluke. Don't get me wrong, they're a solid team and should compete for a playoff spot again, but I don't see them sniffing the Super Bowl again for a couple of seasons.
And the Redskins are still a mess. I think they're going to take a big step backwards this year. The defense will have to carry them once again.

We'll all know he's an injury waiting to happen, but I think it's quite telling that the folks in Seattle and Washington would let Hackett get away. Both teams are WR-needy, and Hackett was a pretty cheap option.
Maybe Jim Zorn, Mike Holmgren et al. have seen something in Hackett over the past few seasons that has scared them off.
