Moore depth for the Steelers backfield
One player I managed to overlook in the free agency recap column was my old buddy Mewelde Moore signing with the Steelers. Okay, he's not my buddy. But he did attend Tulane at the same time and has endured a criminally underused NFL career to date (4.9 yards-per-carry, 9.4 yards-per-reception).
Pittsburgh is a nice fit for Moore. He's better receiving the ball than both Willie Parker and Najeh Davenport and should get plenty of third-down work. Parker is probably never going to become a true every-down back. Comparing the signing bonuses, Davenport isn't necessarily a lock to make the team.
The Steelers may also want to load up at the position in case Willie Parker can't return quickly from a broken leg. Najeh Davenport has been a brittle back in his career, so a Moore-Davenport committee could make sense if FWP ever gets hurt. Add it all up, and Parker may be difficult to handcuff in drafts next season.

I think it is a good signing for the Steelers, but I'm actually surprised they didn't go after Duckett. I thought they would get a bruiser to fill Bettis' role when the Bus helped them to the SB. Parker doesn't excel on the goal line and third down and I don't think Davenport does either. Maybe they needed insurance if FWP doesn't come back at 100%.

I have never really been sold On Wee Willie Parker, I thought the Steelers should have drafted Micheal Bush in the third Round in last year's draft instead of drafting another tight end.But that another story. I like the signing he is a much better 3rd down option than either Dookie or Haynes. plus he can contribute on ST as as return guy.Which is something the Steelers need since Rossum was a bust and has left Via FA.
