Mayock's Top Ten

Mock Drafts aren't usually built on original thought. They primarily look at other Mock Drafts, switch some names, teams, and needs around, and go from there. Even draftniks who spend the college season following the players tend to have similar rankings because they read each other, but don't know what NFL scouts are seeing or saying.
I've been sold on Mike Mayock's mock drafts since 2005, when he had Aaron Rodgers falling all the way to number 25 to the Packers. It's not just that he nailed a pick absolutely no one saw coming, it's that he had the confidence and research to make his own decision instead of following the masses. His pipeline to NFL teams probably doesn't hurt. He revealed his first top-ten Mock picks last week and there were a few stunners that should be taken seriously. Let's take a look ...
1. Dolphins - Matt Ryan - Everyone thinks they are going for Chris Long, which might be what Bill Parcells is hoping for. Jake Long seems like the only other possibility here.
2. Rams - Jake Long - This is becoming the consensus pick for the Rams. With Alex Barron and Orlando Pace already there, is a coaching staff on the hot seat going to invest in someone with less 2008 value than other picks?
3. Falcons - Glenn Dorsey - Like Adrian Peterson in 2007, perhaps the injury concerns knock Dorsey down, but not that far.
4. Raiders - Vernon Gholston - Best athlete available. I think this pick is Gholston or Darren McFadden if they are available. Considering Oakland's decrepit offense, getting a weapon for JaMarcus Russell makes a lot of sense.
5. Chiefs - Jeff Otah - Mayock's stunner. He says the Chiefs will desperately try to trade down, but Otah fits the mauler type they want. This one is so out of left field that I'd guess there is something to it.
6. Jets - Chris Long - In the Jets dreams. This looks crazy, but we would have thought the same about Rodgers and Quinn's falls. Or Mario Williams going first. The wisdom of the Mock masses is rarely right.
7. Patriots - Derrick Harvey - Another shocker. Harvey would move to OLB in the pros. Top cornerback available (Flowers, McKelvin, Cromartie?) would have to be a consideration.
8. Ravens - Leodis McKelvin - If Matt Ryan is gone, they are probably going to find a corner they like. Odd stat: In four of the last five drafts, no true corners have been taken in the first round.
9. Bengals - Sedrick Ellis - Cincy's dream scenario after missing out on Shaun Rogers
10. Saints - Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie - Deion sold me too at the Combine. Cromartie has to be the biggest "riser" in postseason action. Saints could go best cornerback available here and be happy.

If Mcfadden slips pass the 5th pick Dallas will trade up and get him. Your Mock draft doesn't even include him. Just give me your job.
Oh here is a pic with you and your best friend!

Hey Marty: 1) This isn't Gregg's mock. 2) The whole point is that this mock of Mayock's goes outside the conventional wisdom. 3) RB is argueably the least important/dumbest position to draft with a high draft pick. 4) Only Snyder and Jones would give away the most valuable picks in the draft (late first, early second) to move up to a less valuable pick and then draft a position with less value. And even those guys are slowly but surely learning how to run football teams. The Cowboys won't trade up.
There are plenty of places to post if you want to be a stupefyingly idiotic ass. Try a Fox message board and leave Rotoworld for people who would prefer to think about fantasy sports as opposed to hurling invective.

The picture was pretty funny though!
Being a Dolphin fan, I would hate to see them finally draft a Qb in the first round in a draft that has no potential at that position. But I am sure they will if I know they shoudn't. But then again Billy might just trade out of that pick....I hope.
Sorry I don't have any cool pictures to post.

Please don't compare Daniel Snyder to Jerry Jones. How many SB trophies does Chainsaw Danny have?

Re:Just joking guys come on.., I'm Gregg Rosenthal Greatest Fan The wonder years was the best growing up!, but Mcfadden Like it or NOt is a top 10 pick in my opinion. To think the Raiders, Saints, Patriots, and Bengals would not take him is not thinkin unconventional
Thats just called "player hating."
Sorry greg I thought this was your draft maybe I should read before blabbing my mouth.

I don't think Mcfadden is Adrian Peterson but I do think he is a top ten guy. If he gets by Jets at six the Cowboys will move up to get him. Especially since Julius has moved on
