New Fix

I convinced the powers that be that Tiffany and I needed to record a post free agency Fantasy Football Fix episode and they complied. To get back at me, they picked the screenshot that makes me look most like a jackass. Also keep an eye on my sage-like prediction regarding Javon Walker.

Losing Favre hurts receivers

It's a rough day for the Cheeseheads, but don't forget the other victims in Brett Favre's retirement: Fantasy owners! Keeper leaguers who own Favre knew this could happen, but it also affects the 2008 value of Green Bay's trio of talented receivers: Greg Jennings, Donald Driver, and James Jones.

Could Aaron Brooks backup Aaron Rodgers?

Assuming Brett Favre doesn't return to the Packers, they are now in the market for a backup to Aaron Rodgers. They are in a tricky spot. They don't want a veteran who challenges Rodgers' authority as the starter (Daunte Culpepper, Byron Leftwich come to mind), but they would like some experience. Rodgers has received significant playing time in two NFL games, and he's been hurt in both of them.

Moore depth for the Steelers backfield

One player I managed to overlook in the free agency recap column was my old buddy Mewelde Moore signing with the Steelers. Okay, he's not my buddy. But he did attend Tulane at the same time and has endured a criminally underused NFL career to date (4.9 yards-per-carry, 9.4 yards-per-reception).

Pittsburgh is a nice fit for Moore. He's better receiving the ball than both Willie Parker and Najeh Davenport and should get plenty of third-down work. Parker is probably never going to become a true every-down back. Comparing the signing bonuses, Davenport isn't necessarily a lock to make the team.

Favre's story won't end today

Brett Favre just wasn't going to retire without a little drama. Before we move on to the fantasy impact of the Aaron Rodgers era, we have to ask if Favre really is done.

His agent Bus Cook, for one, sounds confused:

Guys who I expected to get cut by now

1. LaMont Jordan: What are the Raiders waiting for? If they don’t release him soon, it looks like they are considering keeping Jordan until the NFL Draft. If they don’t draft someone at the position, he has an outside chance to stick at a reduced price.

2. Shaun Alexander: If T.J. Duckett signs, the Seahawks will be in position to cut Alexander should they use a first-round pick at running back. Just a thought.

It's also worth noting that Ricky Williams, Rudi Johnson, and Edgerrin James are all safely on their '07 roster.

Moss and Culpepper daydreaming

Randy Moss and Daunte Culpepper talking on the phone is a fun Sportscenter story, but that's it. Culpepper isn't guaranteed an NFL job this year, much less dictating the terms of it. And while Moss is sure to find suitors, he's a unique case that will only fit a few teams.

Falcons douse cold water on The Burner

Imagine the Michael Turner hype if the Falcons were actually an NFL team with a real offensive line and quarterback. I'd bet he'll go in the late second round as a RB2 as it is, but his teammates will be a big handicap. New offensive coordinator Mike Mularkey loves to pound the football, but it could be hard to score.

Still, there will only be so many runners we project to hit 300 carries. He should be one of them. That means Jerious Norwood's role shouldn't change, and Warrick Dunn should be looking for work.

Nikko finds a home

It's amazing how much a 697-yard season and some Rosenhaus magic can rehab your value. No one wanted Donte Stallworth last offseason, but that was largely due to some concerns about a positive drug test.

After fitting in to the Patriots system, but hardly shining, Stallworth was rewarded by the Browns with a seven-year, $35 million deal. That gives Rosenhaus a nice talking point with future clients, but the key number is $17 million for Stallworth over the first four years - much more reasonable.

Colbert gets surprise second chance

As the last dynasty league owner in the country of Keary Colbert, well, this is too good to be true. I hoped Colbert would get a second chance (or any job), but the opportunity to start in Denver is better than he or his agent could have dreamed.

Yes, Denver will add talent to the position. But with that signing bonus, and Brandon Stokley in place in the slot, I'm guessing Colbert will be competing with a rookie to start opposite Brandon Marshall. The Broncos must have really loved Colbert coming out of USC because he hasn't put much on tape the last three years.

And I thought the Saints bringing Devery Henderson back was surprising.
