Favre's story won't end today

Brett Favre just wasn't going to retire without a little drama. Before we move on to the fantasy impact of the Aaron Rodgers era, we have to ask if Favre really is done.

His agent Bus Cook, for one, sounds confused:

"I know he wants to play one more year. I do not know much conversation there was (between Favre and the Packers) and I don't think anyone forced him to make that decision. But I don't know that anyone tried to talk him out of it ... He knows he's still got it. I think he felt he could play one more year. I don't know if they told him they really wanted him to play. That's just the feeling I got."

Watch out for that bus Ted Thompson. Cook said he "didn't know" whether Favre could be convinced to play again. So ... you're saying there's a chance?

While some of Favre's friends aren't surprised at the decision, these comments from Cook are going to kickstart another round of speculation. Chris Mortensen speculated on ESPN Tuesday morning before he heard from Favre that Randy Moss signing with New England was a factor. Profootballtalk already passes along scuttlebutt that Miami could be a destination if Favre played again. (Don't forget Green Bay holds his contractual rights).

Maybe it will all prove to just be talk, and Favre won't play again. But he's going to provide a lot of copy in the meantime. Just another Favre offseason.

Who knows, he may play again, and GB will get a bunch of draft picks from Miami if it happens. But to tell the truth, it's Joe Montana with Kansas City all over again. It never looked right and was a little sad to see.

Couldn't agree more. Unitas in Powder blue. Not being much of an Elway fan, he did it correctly and on his terms. Will always be remembered as a true Champion. Favre should do the same. He has flirted with going out on a downward spiral, last season - a playoff loss to the eventual champs. Good enough curtain drop.

I truly hope that Mr. Favre retires if he says he is going to.

I would have liked it if he had said last year that it was his last year. The fans would have been able to give him a nice send off.
It had to happen at some point, and I'm glad he did it after a great season.
I don't want to see him in another uniform. I don't care how many draft picks we would get for him.

I'm glad Favre didn't say that 2007 would be his last season during the season. That ends up being too much of a distraction for the team and an ego trip for the player, Hello Tiki Barber!

I'm glad that if 2007 is Favre's last one in the NFL, it was a great one! Brett is a class guy.

As a Bears fan, nothing could benefit my team more than Farve's retirement; except maybe Adrian Peterson saying he's going to retire after his rookie season! As a football fan, I hate to see him go. He was one of the true football heros...
