What the Dolphins cuts mean

Today was the first day that teams could release players for the 2008 season, and Dolphins Kingpins Bill Parcells and Jeff Ireland wasted no time. Here's what it all means.
1. John Beck is a lonely man
He has to be cleared medically to play again, which seems far from certain. If he gets clearance, he has to find a team that wants him. Baltimore and St. Louis are two possibilities. With Cleo Lemon headed for free agency, the Dolphins basically have only John Beck at quarterback. Quincy Carter, send in your resume!
2. Ted Ginn and Derek Hagan will have more opportunities
With Chris Chambers and now Marty Booker gone, Miami's young wideouts are the team's presumptive starters. I expect them to add a starting caliber name in free agency, but Ginn especially should have every chance to shine in '08.
3. They are rebuilding the offensive line
Even though the O-line was a bright spot for Miami in 2007, Parcells and Ireland are cleaning house. Tackles Joe Toledo, L.J. Shelton, and Anthony Alabi were all cut. Shelton moved around in his two seasons in Miami, but wound up starting 16 games at right tackle last year.

As for the offensive line, the Tuna will regret trying to fix something that is not broken. This team will be lucky if they improve on their abysmal record next season.

Phins will have a 2 yr turnaround Tuna is jettisoning the bad - Phins should be a 7-9 team next year with the right FA signs (WAY under cap) plus a solid draft (4 day one picks AS OF NOW maybe more thru trades) - Phins COULD be challenging for a playoff spot in 2 years.
