No consensus at cornerback
We're going to be blogging about the Combine the next few days, and the cornerback group might be the most interesting position to watch.
There is no clear cut leader to be the first pick drafted. A lot of the slavish Mock Drafts seem to think Mike Jenkins and Aquib Talib are possible top-ten picks.. Mike Mayock, who has been all over Leodis McKelvin of Troy, now has moved Brandon Flowers of Virginia Tech to the top of his cornerback board after watching more tape.
He calls Flowers the most physical cornerback he's seen in five years. Watching the highlights of Flowers, he sounds like a run-stopping corner who would excel in a Cover Two, but Mayock thinks he's good enough to play in any system. Any bump and run team would like him. Think Antoine Winfield or a younger Ty Law.
Flowers may not burn up the track in the forty, but I can think of two teams in the top-ten that don't worry about the stopwatch that much and could use a physical corner: the Patriots and Jets. Perhaps Flowers will be the next player they fight over.
