Good players rarely change teams
More than ever before in the salary cap era, free agency is becoming a low-profile affair. Keep a couple things in mind over the next two weeks.
1. With rare exceptions, a player only leaves if his original team wants him to
For every Asante Samuel who makes it to the market, there are a couple cornerbacks (Marcus Trufant and Nmandi Asomugha) that get franchised.
2. The salary cap increases and improved cap management have made it easier to retain players
The early days of free agency had a lot more quality players in their prime changing teams. Now it's easy enough to fit under the cap that solid role players like Stacy Andrews, Corey Williams, and Max Starks are retained with huge one-year salaries.
That creates a market where there a lot of teams with a lot of money, and no one to spend it on. Solid starters like Bengals DE Justin Smith are going to be paid like All Pros.
