Fitzgerald could hold key to Edge's future?

Thanks to everyone for chipping in on my Thomas Jones vs. Edgerrin James quandry yesterday. I wound up going with Jones, then Justin Fargas the next round. My RB2 spot would be weak, but S. Jackson-Owens-Ocho-Boldin-Brees would make up for it. Plus, this is a February Mock. You just look for value.
One of the reasons I passed on James was that his uncertain situation in Arizona. I think the Cards are more likely to draft a first day running back than New York (although both teams may), and James could get cut and be a backup elsewhere.
GM Rod Graves didn't admit as much Thursday, saying that James is in the team's plans "as of right now." Not a ringing endorsement, but it probably means James will be back if other pieces fall into place.
Primary among them is Larry Fitzgerald's contract. He has a cap figure over $16 million. If the Cards can't get him signed to a long-term deal, "tough decisions" will have to be made. Cutting Edge will be an option.
Fitzgerald is in a great position. He has a couple options. 1) He gets a huge salary next year, and sets up free agency to come sooner. 2) He drives a hard bargain to be the highest paid receiver in football. If the Cardinals don't want to pay the man his money, they could be forced to cut Edgerrin James and draft their next starting running back. The last time they did that, they ended up with J.J. Arrington.
