Day One Recap
Surprisingly, my wife didn't feel like spending Saturday morning watching Men in tight shorts run forty-yard dashes. So I caught up on Day one of the Combine this morning before beginning to watch Sunday's skill position coverage.
In a nutshell, the big stories of the day were ...
1) Jake Long is a stud. Each year, one tackle solidifies his dominance at the Combine. After D'Brickashaw Ferguson in 2006 and Joe Thomas in 2007, Long did the trick this year. Ryan Clady has been mentioned in his same class, but Clady didn't work out. And the NFL Network guys think Clady is closer to the next group of tackles than a top five-pick like Long.
2) Notre Dame's John Carlson hurt himself more than any player. He's a complete player who had a chance to go in the first round, but a 4.89 forty is a red flag. It doesn't mean he won't be a good pro, but it probably means his stock will slide a round.
3) Purdue's Dustin Keller made himself some money. He was the fastest in the forty and first or second in five other drills. The former wideout should have excelled in measurables, and he did. Like a smaller Tony Scheffler, Keller could climb into the second or third round as a high upside project.
4) Vanderbilt's Chris Williams is an athletic tackle who should have solidified his middle-first round grade.
Let me know what I missed. Now on to the skill positions.

Not wanting to watch the combine reflects in your lack of hits... or comments.
Hint to be a big time anaylist is takes effort.
He shakes his head. :)

I thought Eddie Royal looked good. I think he is a solid second to mid third round pick.
