Senior Bowl Liveblog

Because I'm a glutton for writing things few people are interested in, let's do a last minute liveblog of today's afternoon Senior Bowl proceedings. No, I'm not actually there like our man Shawn in Mobile. But I can watch on television, and Mike Mayock will talk to me this way. My look at whether Chad Henne could be the number two quarterback in the draft is below.
After two days of televised North team practice, NFL Network is showing the South team this afternoon. During the season, I'm completely focused on the NFL. So this week is a chance for me to begin to go to school on the prospective draft picks. Here goes, refresh often.
4:34: 49er fans be proud! Mike Nolan has set the all-time record coaching the Senior Bowl for the third straight year. The Rams had a chance before the 49ers this year, but the team wasn't sure if Linehan would be back at the time.
4:38: Mayock calls Leodis McKelvin the top cornerback of the draft. He can do everything, Mayock says, including be an explosive return man. His ball skills are the only downside. I doubt he's atop most rankings.
4:45: For two minutes, I feel what it's like to be a quarterback coached by Mike Martz. And I'm already tired and fearful. Martz, miked up, talks to Colt Brennan without interruption the whole time trying to fix his dropback. He keeps saying to think about the belly button. Great stuff.
4:47: Colt Brennan only weighed in at 6'2, 185 pounds. He's "rail thin." This isn't going to help his draft. He's fighting the curse of Timmy Chang.
4:52: They explain away Brennan's Sugar Bowl performance by blaming the offensive line. But as Brady Quinn can tell you, the last impression can
4:58: Mayock notes that Woodson got sacked more than 110 times at school
4:59: Good job by NFL Network pointing out that Woodson isn't remotely a "mobile" quarterback like announcers say. Typical stuff from lazy announcers.
5:00: They show some tape from Woodson. Great touch and arm strength. But inconsistent accuracy. And that's why he's not ranked higher. Accuracy might be the most important quality for any quarterback.
5:03: Anyone actually watching the practice and reading (God Bless you) will note I'm behind live because something came up here.
5:03: Antonio Cromartie's second cousin or something, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, is on the team. Small school guy. Wonder if added the Cromartie to help his draft stock. Sounds like Cromartie has a shot to be a first day pick with a strong postseason.
5:10: I am firmly of the belief that Mike Singletary has received all the head coaching interviews primarily because of Senior Bowl week coverage. Owners are watching, and they think now that's a coach. And they're right. I just tackled my wife.
5:13: For sane people out there who can't sit through these long practices, NFL Network runs a 30-minute recap show each night which probably gives you what you need to know.
5:15: Offensive line drills. Mayock on Chris Williams from Tennessee: One of the best finest left tackles in football. Borderline first-rounder.
5:17: Donnie Avery from Houston - may be fastest player in draft. But like Ted Ginn last year, needs work on running routes other than "Go long"
5:19: They love McKelvin from Troy something crazy. His ability to break on the ball. Going to be talked about a lot the next few months.
5:22: Colt Brennan throws a great deep ball to Andre Caldwell, who doesn't seem to be a scout favorite.
5:23: Patrick Lee, CB from Auburn, getting a lot of differing opinions. He didn't start as a junior, but played great as a senior. Sounds like he has an outside chance shot at a first-rounder.
5:24: Brennan can handle the touch pass, but struggles to drive the ball.
5:26: Andre Woodson has a Byron Leftwich-lite hitch in his motion. Maybe helps explain some of the sacks he's taken. Definitely a little off with his timing, but that's to be expected with new receivers. Sounds like he's a bit streaky.
5:33: Mayock says someone will fall in love with Woodson as a late first-rounder, but he sounds unconvinced.
5:35: We interrupt this liveblog to bring you the latest in Brady anklegate.
5:37: Erik Ainge from Tennessee, a late addition to the Senior Bowl roster, appears to be struggling some.
5:39: New draft term: "Stack and shed defensive end"
5:45: Jacob Hester from LSU: Does everything well, but doesn't have the tailback potential like Brian Leonard last year.
5:48: I'm starting to lose steam, but want to hear them talk about Tulane product Matt Forte.
5:49: He seems to have a cautious Mayock seal of approval. Quick feet, but can move the pile at 221 pounds. They think he could sneak up some on the the junior running backs in the draft. That officially clinches that I'm taking him on my dynasty league team.
5:51: And then he drops a pass. Forte had decent numbers in the receiving game, but didn't make many tough catches in school.
5:54: I'm packing it in. Thanks for stopping by people.
