Scott Pioli and Josh McDaniels aren’t going anywhere
Patriots VP of Player Personnel Scott Pioli talked Thursday about why he hasn’t been eager to leave the Patriots to run another team.
“What’s wrong with this challenge?” Pioli said. “Why can’t the natural progression to be part of a team that is good as long as possible?”
Piole disagrees that the reward would be greater elsewhere.
“Sustained success is the most elusive thing in this sport … Why isn’t that a greater challenge?”
Pioli says that everyone must “manage their ego” in New England, but they all have ownership of their success. Pioli turned down a chance to run the Giants last year, a job many thought was his dream position.
Offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels also doesn’t appear to be going anywhere. The Boston Globe reported that McDaniels would turn down a chance to interview with the Redskins if he was asked.
The intelligent young coordinator made it clear that he expects to make the Giants defend a lot of different formations early in the game. He wants to see how they respond, and make them think about the formations for later in the game. If the Giants fatigue because of changing their personnel, that’s a nice side effect.
