Playoff Saturday Live

5:45: Welcome to a Saturday's almost-sorta Playoff liveblog. I won't be able to update the blog as much as I'd like, but will be checking in when I can the rest of the night with thoughts while my wife entertains friends only a room away! We will be here Sunday at 1PM for the Giants-Bucs game for a proper liveblog, with all the trimmings.

5:55: Joe Gibbs. vs. Mike Holmgren and we have a defensive battle? Washington's makeshift offensive line just isn't giving Todd Collins a chance. Neither are Collins' receivers, who have dropped three passes, one to kill a drive.

5:59: For all the Seattle domination, you are seeing some of the reasons why they have been a good, not great, team. The passing game is just a little of synch, with Matt Hasselbeck overthinking a few plays and missing some receivers. The running game started great, but has been inconsistent. The 2005 Seahawks would be up three scores by now. Of course the 2005 Seahawks wouldn't have a shutout. Patrick Kerney, Lofa Tatupu, and the boys are dominant.

6:07: I like Joe Gibbs being aggressive, going for fourth down. The inability of his offensive line to convert a 2nd-and-one and fourth-and-one is a huge concern.

6:09: Seattle's third straight three-and-out. Hasselbeck has thrown the ball 17 times for only 93 yards and fumbled once. Mike Holmgren hates running the ball when Washington is playing so much man coverage on the outside. But he is going to have to more, and Shaun Alexander is going to have to show something for them to hang on in the second half. You don't get the sense this game is over.

6:31: The Redskins try to get Clinton Portis involved in their first drive after halftime and he gains three yards on two carries. They aren't going to win if Portis can't gain yardage Huge blown chance by Washington after stopping Seattle yet again.

6:43: Seattle driving with ease, but stall in the red zone. Cris Collinsworth says Fred Smoot has played the best football in his life the last four weeks. What an insanely up-and-down career he's had. Seahawks go up 13-0. It's still only two scores, but Washington has to score.

6:45: My wife asked if she could host people tonight while I watched the games. Starting to wonder if that was a good idea.

6:47: Brady Quinn for Myoplex! He has lowest production: endorsement ratio in the league, just ahead of Reggie Bush.

6:48: D.J. Hackett leading the Seahawks with 64 yards and four catches. I want him to do well, but not so well in the playoffs that his ADP next year starts rising.

6:53: Collins starts finding the hot reads on Seattle blitzes as Washington gets their best drive of the game. They stall on a second-and-one. .. again. and Portis can't pick up a yard on third-down. Their season could come down to the Redskins going for it on fourth down.

6:55: And the Redskin go play-action and draw a penalty going for a touchdown! Gotta give Gibbs and Al Saunders credit. After playing SO conservative early in the year, costing the team games, he's playing to win today. Not that it's showing up on the scoreboard.

7:00: Now it is. The Redskins have become a pass-first team today, which plays to Seattle's defensive strength in pass coverage and pass rush. But they moved the ball on that drive on sterling passes from Todd Collins and a few great plays by Chris Cooley. Washington's defense has kept them in this game and now it's only a one score game.

7:04: Hasselbeck interception when you absolutely can't have one. This game has turned in a second.

7:08: Collins hits Santana Moss immediatley on a long touchdown. The game goes from 13-0 to 14-13 Redskins in less than two minutes. Collins has uncorked more long passes than Jason Campbell, and that's how this offense is built.

7:14: Play I won't forget if Washington doesn't win: After the Redskins get the mother of all gifts by recovering a kickoff deep in Seattle territory, the Redskins go for the throat by throwing to Chris Cooley near the goal line. He makes a sliding catch at the two, but they rule him out. The Redskins are stopped, and then Suishman misses a 30-yarder.

7:22: After another Hasselbeck interception, the Redskins move backward. That's two straight turnovers they haven't taken advantage of. Teams don't like playing with the lead in this one.

7:24: If the Seahawks lose, this will be the second straight year Hasselbeck had made some memorably bad decisions in the playoffs.

7:27: And then he hits Fantasy Fix favorite D.J. Hackett for a score.

7:30: Can't remember a fourth-quarter like this one. Santana Moss sells out Todd Collins by quitting on a play, and what looked like a Redskins comeback win a few minutes ago is a 14-point lead for Seattle after Marcus Trufant returns a pick for a score.

7:34: After pulling off a mustache like this one, Hasselbeck deserves everything he gets.

7:36: Already in this fourth quarter, in no particular order: Two Hasselbeck interceptions, a Hasselbeck score, a long Trufant interception for a touchdown, a two-point conversion, the first two Washington touchdowns of the game, a kicking team recovering a kickoff without an onside kick, missed 30-yard field goal, and a kicking team recovering a kickoff. And there are still five minutes left.

7:41: Redskins fans are going to remember Suisham's missed kick for a long time. It changed the entire game. But the Redskins had their opportunities to score a killer touchdown before that. They picked off Hasselbeck after the kick, and then went three and out.

The stage was set for Washington's outstanding run to continue, but they just couldn't finish. This was a defensive battle, and Seattle's pressure made the difference. Joe Gibbs will see his season end in Seattle for the second time in three years. Bring on the Jason Campbell-Todd Collins "controvery."

7:48: One thing we've definitively learned: Todd Collins is not a great tackler. Thanks for stopping by tonight. I'll be back for the Giants-Bucs tomorrow.
