Making the wife happy
My wife Emika made it clear she wouldn't be happy if she didn't see me asking a question on NFL Network during the Bill Belichick press conference.
I am amazed by her sudden football aptitude. I knew the tide was turning the day she was home watching football by herself (A Miami Dolphin game to boot, when Cleo Lemon found Greg Camarillo for their only win of the season.) Still, this was another level. I put her through a lot because of this job, but imagining her sitting at home watching a 20-minute Belichick presser with no payoff is cruel and unusual punishment.
I had trouble getting the attention of the guy who was passing the microphone around, but finally got in the last question of the session. I had a number of questions in my head, but didn't want to get too cute the first time around. I asked about one of my favorite players in the NFL, Antonio Pierce, a player I knew Belichick could appreciate. Pierce, like Tedy Bruschi, is all football instincts.
"A lot of times he almost looks like he heard the play in the huddle," Belichick said.
The rest of the answer, which can be read here, was almost irrelevant. Getting the question out with Belichick looking on was the thing. And keeping the wife happy of course.
(Ok folks, I'm heading out to eat here. Hope to empty some of the notebook before Media Day tomorrow. Thanks for stopping by)

For those folks who don't like to read, the Patriots website now has the video feed of today's press conference online. You can hear Gregg and Belichick interact instead of just reading about it...

Hey Gregg, just saw the clip. Good job on handling Belichick, and good luck the rest of the week, enjoy it you0ve earned it! I'm from Mexico, so I found it embarassing that the Mexican reporter (Ines Gomez Mont) said she was the real Mrs. Brady. Were you there when that happened? Anyway good luck.
