Belichick loves quietly tweaking the media. Leaving Tom Brady’s ankle off the injury report is a start. Scheduling the Patriots availability for the earliest time possible, so that the writers will have wake up by 5:30AM like Belichick is another.
The sun, not yet up, backlit the Arizona mountains on the way to the Patriots hotel, nearly 40 minutes from the airport.
The media expects so little out of BB that over half of the assembled group covering the Patriots stayed in the room next to Belichick’s podium, waiting for the players to arrive 30 minutes later. No one, including myself, asked him about Tom Brady’s ankle until the last question of the session. Belichick showed up casual today, looking a little tired in a ragged polo shirt and jeans.
