Dr. Z is still feisty
One of the highlights of the morning was meeting Dr. Z of Sports Illustrated and Steve Sabol of NFL Films briefly, before leaving them to chatter. These are two of the titans of NFL coverage since the Super Bowl Era started, even if they aren’t as famous as the talking heads on Around the Horn.
I wound up at the same player table or podium with Zimmerman a few times, and learned a few things about the types of questions to ask. Better yet, I saw him chew out some knucklehead reporter that almost put Zimmerman on the floor. The reporter was trying to get through a tight spot, so he moved Z’s chair backwards with Zimmerman in it. With Patriots offensive coordinator in mid-sentence a foot away, Zimmerman immediately jumped up and yelled at the guy “You don’t do that!”
The room got silent for a second, the reporter groveled quickly, and Zimmerman was back taking notes from McDaniel before you could say Art Monk.

Comments
Zimmerman's response was far ruder than the chair-puller's act. McDaniels (that's how his name is spelled, by the way) should have told "Dr." Z (only total douchebags refer to themselves as Dr. when they don't have an MD) "you don't do that." After all, McDaniels actually does something with his life other than summarize (though what he does is pretty meaningless in the grand scheme of things).

So Julius Erving, or any number of other personalities who may have used the "Dr" moniker, are total douchebags? If you truly are a "real doctor" than you're giving the rest of your profession a black mark with those comments. I have close friends and relatives who are docs but, thankfully, they don't share your pompous attitude. Sure, Zimmerman could have been more discreet. But, step down off of that shaky pedestal you seem to be occupying. There are many poor doctors out there and even more who think they are better than others just because of their titles. I'll take McDaniels and his "meaningless" job over most physician positions anyday.

Don't worry, the "real doctor" is just jealous for going through years of schooling and debt to earn a title I earned while on the job.
Look, I'm one of the world's foremost experts on football. Doctor is not only a professional title, but also a colloquialism for any expert. It's not my title, it's what people have called me, so sure, I embrace it.
Lay off. And don't touch my chair.
