Coming around to Favre

As a football fan nearing the end of my twenties, I've spent most of my football fan life being tired of Brett Favre. Not the man or player per se, but the fawning coverage of him. It was hard to separate the player from the non-stop Favre love, especially when he was showing signs of decline.
Well, I'm eternally grateful he came back for this season. To see Favre at his best, developing his young receivers, block out the noise, and just enjoy watching the player has been a joy. The third-and-eight stumbling underhanded completion to Donald Lee will be repeated breathlessly on highlight shows all week. The phrase "playing like a kid in his backyard" will be used. But in that moment of the game, with the Seattle defense desperately needing something positive before halftime, Favre made the biggest play of the game. And it was a play only he could make.

The way you feel about Favre is a way a lot of non Patriot fans feel about Brady. We respect him but we are completely sick of the hype.

Favre is Favre, there isn't another QB like him. He comes across as just loving the game and is difficult not to root for. From everything I've ever heard or read about him he's a fantastic human being.

Favre will go into NFL history as a man who helped to redefine the position in terms of grit, longevity, and improvization. Hype or not - the only basis people can really have for disliking him is jealousy.
Tom Brady will likewise go on to redefine the position in terms of coolness under pressure, unbelieable patience, and unmatched accuracy. He's amazing and will likely retire with 6-7 super bowl rings (frightening, but think about it).
However, at this moment, I'd like to see Favre make it to the big game and show Brady up on the world's biggest stage. That'd make for quite a capstone on Favre's legendary career.
