Bucs-Giants Liveblog, Second Quarter

1:43: Collective Soul for American Idol. Good to see they are still getting paid.

1:44: Jeff Garcia buys time in the pocket, but throws low on a play to Joey Galloway. Garcia hasn't been sharp so far. 10 attempts for 48 yards. Keeping the Giants close.

1:47: Tampa playing eight in the box, and not giving up the deep play. Brian Kelley gambles on a short pass, but Eli gets it to Amani Toomer.

1:49: The Giants had negative two yards in the first quarter. How about that momentum!

1:50: The Train has one yard on six carries. Looks like I choose well with Hackett over him this week on the Fix.

1:51: Steve Smith another drop. He had a few over the last two weeks. His reputation out of college was as a surehanded, route-running machine. Not perfect measurables, but smart. I usually love those guys. He's shown very little of that scouting report this year.

1:54: Ronde Barber doesn't get anywhere near Eli on a blitz, and Manning calmly finds Amani Toomer on a third-and-long. The Train awkwardly catches a short pass for a score. Big answer by the Giants.

1:56: Elsewhere, the Dolphins are denying a local New Haven report that Tony Sparano will be the next Dolphins coach. Wonder if it has anything to do with fulfilling the Rooney Rule first.

1:59: Michael Strahan takes over on two straight plays. A sack, then a screen play he's too smart to fall for. Dr. Z thought Jeremy Trueblood has been overrated as a rookie and he certainly got housed right there.

2:03: The Bucs take the eighth man out of the box, Eli sees it, checks to a running play, and Ahmad Bradshaw goes for a nice game. Eli suddenly managing the game well.

2:07: Eli hits his sixth straight pass, the the Train goes for his second touchdown of the game. His fantasy owners wonder where that was in the regular season.

2:08: Aikman on Jacobs: "You aren't going to slow that train down." He's been watching the Fix!

2:09: Rotoworld news maven Evan Silva curses the fact that the Rams let go of Madison Hedgecock. Also credit goes out to the Hedgecock family for getting on the "Madison" name bandwagon 30 years ahead of time.

2:13: Jeff Garcia, like Michael Vick, just can't stay in the pocket for long. Even when it would serve him well. That's partly why I don't think Garcia is a lock to be Tampa's Week 1 starter next year. Jon Gruden wants someone who actually runs his offense. Garcia could face competition.

2:16: Ike Hilliard bails out Garcia with a diving grab on an ugly-looking out route. Nothing is coming easy for Garcia today. Where's Earnest Graham?

2:19: The Giants drop back defenders, knowing Garcia isn't going to beat them deep. Joey Galloway runs in the locker room early. Ugly, ugly quarter for the Bucs.

2:21: Bizarre that the Giants are content to go into halftime up seven instead of trying to drive. I think the boos are coming from New York fans wondering why they aren't aggressive.
