Bucs-Giants LiveBlog, First Quarter

1:00: Here we go. Back from a run. Never sign up for something that forces you to train in the middle of winter. It's going to be tough for today's games to match yesterday. One of the best Wild Card days in a long time: two fourth-quarter, double-digit comebacks, although both comeback teams wound up losing.
Let me know what your favorite format is. Newest post up top or last? I think the best compromise may be four separate posts-per-quarter, but with the latest post on the bottom like yesterday.
1:06: Barrett Ruud runs down Brandon Jacobs on the outside. He's going to need a big day as Tampa's best tackler. Jacobs is probably going to have to find room inside the tackles. Giants go three and out.
1:08: Tampa's o-line holds up on the first down, and Garcia has time to find our man Joey Galloway. Don't really know why I need a favorite player each game to root for, but there it is.
1:10: We have a Michael Clayton sighting! He's actually played better the last few weeks. Better meaning only slightly less valuable than Ike Hilliard, which is depressing.
1:16: Eli Manning has been complaining about the weather in New York for causing his late-season slide. It's a fair point, but c'mon. You play in New York.
1:18: The Giants were supposed to have an advantage running in between the tackles, but Brandon Jacobs (The Train) is stuffed in short-yardage. Joe Buck can talk all he wants about "momentum" and "confidence" after playing the Patriots tough (just like Baltimore and Philly), but the Giants could sure use their starting center today. And cornerback. And linebacker. That game was a worst-case scenario for the Giants. They came up short, and lose key players.
1:21: Jeff Garcia's biggest weakness is the deep ball. He's tried twice today, for nada.
1:24: With the Giants defenders flying up the field, Earnest Graham is scooting past them inside. I thought Tampa's biggest problem today could come from their line play, but they've been solid so far. Need to convert into points here.
1:26: Well, this game is off to a better start than the last Bucs home playoff game. That was the beginning of the end of Chris Simms' brief time in the sun. This week's games has a distinctly '05 feel in the NFC with the Redskins vs. Seahawks and the Bucs.
1:28: That "Saints go Marching in commercial" is great, but always cracks me up. There isn't a single one of those swipey credit card things in the entire city.
1:30: Earnest Graham punches it in. Giants rush defense not doing well thus far.
1:31: Aaron Gleeman chimes in, pointing out that Jeff Garcia leads the league in pump-fakes.
1:32: And suspicious marriages. Kidding!
1:34: Last year, a lot of Tampa writers blamed Rod Marinelli leaving on the collapse of the defensive line. This year, they are getting unreal efforts from no-names like Jovan Haye, who just dropped the Train in the backfield.
1:38: Steve Smith fails to make a play over the middle. New York's inability to develop either Smith or Sinorice Moss the last two years has set this offense back.
1:40: Gaines Adams takes down Eli. He's a great candidate to have a Mario Williams-type leap next year. He's really come on in the second half of this season. Great quarter for Tampa, 7-0.

Giants need to establish a running game this drive if they hope to have any chance in this game...

It's up to each player, each team as to wear the Taylor decals. Plenty of teams weren't after the first weekend.
