The Case against Gaffney

Brady's powers only go so far
I left the office early today, barely surviving the wintry mix going on in New York area. With most of my duties done for the day, I decided to open up the mailbox and was amazed at one topic that came up again and again. Everyone wants to play Jabar Gaffney. Here's my case against him.
Jabar Gaffney played more snaps than Donte Stallworth last week, but it doesn't mean it will happen each week. The week before, Gaffney played eight snaps.
You usually want your wideouts to have eight targets, not get on the field that many times. He happened to score a touchdown in those eight snaps, but it's a sign of Gaffney's inconsistent use over the course of the season. Gaffney has only topped 40 snaps twice all year. He's topped three targets in a game three times.
Another reason to sit Gaffney is the weather. The affect of snow on the passing game isn't clear, but a quick look at New England's history in the snow doesn't include many high scoring games. Those were different Patriots teams, with far inferior offenses, but it's not unreasonable to expect the snow to curb some of New England's high-flying ways.
Gaffney looked like New England's No. 2 receiver last week, and I've added him to the weekly rankings in the low fifties because of it. But as someone who has watched all of Gaffney's games as a Patriot, his usage is far too unpredictable to rely on during the fantasy playoffs.
Now back to the email.

I hear you greg. I actually think that he will not do very well. The reason is the pats were going versus very tough defenses and moss was covered the last couple of weeks. That was the reason for the success of gafney. Now the next to games are versus easy opponents. That means moss will get more looks. But the snow will have an effect on all there recievers.
