Drop Sammy Morris?

Sammy Morris has been among the most pleasant surprises of the fantasy season, but his usefulness may already be up for some owners.

The Boston Herald writes that Morris may miss a month. The Boston Globe sees Ben Watson missing at least two weeks, and Morris longer than that.

It's the Patriots, so we're probably not going to get a clearer picture of Morris' health until the Sunday morning when he's playing again. That may be in Week 9, that may be in Week 15. Remember, this is a team that kept Richard Seymour's injury a mystery all August.

I think it's unrealistic to expect Morris to play before their Week 10 bye, which is only three weeks before the fantasy playoffs. There is no telling how healthy Laurence Maroney will be at that point, which is the main factor in determining Morris' value.

I tried to imagine what I would do if Morris was on all my rosters (he's not on any). I came up with this: I'd drop him right now in some leagues to improve my team for the next month; I'd stash him in some leagues I could afford to; I'd wait and see in others.

That's not the clear answer that readers are looking for, but it's reality. Every team and league is different. Morris could prove to be very useful in the fantasy playoffs, but there's a better chance he'll be hurt or a backup. If you are loaded at running back and don't need help getting to the playoffs, then Morris is probably better than what's out there.

I just faced this dilemma by dropping Morris. Of course, some yutz in the league had dropped Hines Ward, so it wasn't really a tough decision to drop Morris for him.

I have him in one league and dropping him would do no good because there isn't anything availible right now. I think the time table will be less then a month.

But my relationship with Morris was just getting started. Geez a few drinks and a drive out to Muldoon's point and now you say drop him? Did anyone ever consider how Sammy might feel? This up and down emotional rollercoster may damage his football usefullness for years to come. It's just not worth it...

i don't the the Pats ever officially confirm injury players' injury status.

if he's not practicing at all, i think it's safe to say he'll miss a few games. if he gets the same treatment as every other injured Pat, he'll be limited in practice, a questionable game-time decision, and it's anyone's guess how long he'll be out.

Well, I could certainly use the roster space, but I'm reluctant to drop Morris just on the word of the Boston reporters. How solid is this information? When will we get some kind of official confirmation from the Patriots on Morris' status?

If you have a roster spot to burn hold on to the guy. Look at how the Pats used him over the first 6 weeks of the season. If this is any indication of his role in the offense, he should be a productive member on your roster down the stretch.

We all know how the Pats treat the injury report though, so if you have better options and need the space you drop him.

This statement rings true more often than not. Hold him if you can, if you can't, drop him and grab someone productive.

T fram: interesting perspective. You may or may not have to turn in your manhood card at the end of the day...haha!

I just dropped Morris in a 14 team to pick up TE V. Davis. At a minimum, he's a decent bye week replacement next week for Witten.
