Colts inch back towards committee

Joseph Addai owners looking forward to his return Monday night didn't enjoy what they saw: Kenton Keith playing early, Kenton Keith playing late, and Kenton Keith stealing a touchdown. Keith wasn’t just coming in for specific situations, rather taking whole series at a time.

Addai was a Fantasy MVP candidate a few weeks ago, but that will be tougher to maintain if he’s in a jobshare moving forward. That’s what I expect to see.

The Colts successfully used a committee last season despite one of the players (Dominic Rhodes) being clearly inferior. As we learned yesterday, Addai almost got stuck in a committee long-term with Maurice Jones-Drew.

Kenton Keith is no MoJo, but I'd expect him to get roughly one-third of the touches moving forward. The Colts probably played it safe with Addai in his first game back with a shoulder injury, and it didn’t help that Addai kept taking himself out of the game.

Addai’s difficulties staying in the game highlight the fact that he’s never carried the load by himself. The Colts will be happy to lose some productivity in the regular season to keep Addai fresh for the playoffs. This is a team that only cares about January. That’s why they can be cautious with Addai and Harrison while they cream possible playoff teams like Tampa and Jacksonville.

Addai owners shouldn’t panic and try to deal him suddenly. The Colts are still a dominant offense, and he just put up 107 total yards on twenty touches against a great Jacksonville defense. How many backs could do that?

The Colts have the ball so much that 2/3 of the carries for Indy is still worth more than all the carries for most teams. Addai will lose some fantasy value, but I’d only knock him down from a top-three back to someone solidly in the top ten. In this diluted season at running back, you aren’t going to find many better.

The Colts have probably hoped to get their backup more involved all along, but they couldn’t trust Kenton Keith yet. He opened some eyes with his huge effort against Tampa and now Keith owners suddenly have a flex option if they run into lineup trouble. He could be Indy’s answer to Sammy Morris.

What type of value do you see Keith holding in fantasy leagues over the rest of the season? Top 25 RB...? Top 30...?

Stephen...

I'm not Gregg, but I'd personally prefer Hackett. Before his injury, he had a chance to take hold of the #1 WR job in Seattle, and still has an outside chance at doing so, especially with the uncertainty surrounding Branch and his own injury recovery.

Henry is a nice red zone threat, but is unquestionably the number three wideout in Cinci.

Upside = Hackett.

Gregg, my apologies for being off topic here, but...

Which of the two talented WR's returning from injury/suspension do you recommend the most highly:

D.J. Hackett or Chris Henry (CIN)?

Gregg - I'll second the request that someone else had that you rank the top 15 RBs for the rest of the year.

I have T Henry, C Portis, B Jacobs, and K Jones and a big hole at TE, and I've been offered F Gore and T Gonzalez for Jacobs and Jones. I'm thinking Gore will return to greatness, but better than Jacobs? The Giants are just clicking so much better than the 49ers right now......

chad johnson n ahman green for brees and jacobs? good deal or bad?

I'd take Hackett as well. I'll try to do a top-15 RBs this week, just trying to keep everything else on schedule.

Jason, that's a GREAT deal for whomever's getting Brees/Jacobs.
