Mr. Watson

As a not particularly proud owner of Kenny Watson in multiple leagues, I face a difficult question: Do I play him?

It depends on the team of course. One of my better teams, he's still my fifth-best option. On another, he's my RB2 because of injuries and bye weeks.

Kenny Watson is a borderline RB2/flex play this week against the Pats. I have him ranked No. 24, just behind guys like Edgerrin James, Brian Leonard, and Ron Dayne. He's just ahead of Warrick Dunn, Jamal Lewis, Kevin Jones, and DeAngelo Williams.

The Patriots are a tough matchup on the ground and I don't expect Watson to top 50 yards rushing. But the New England linebackers aren't great in coverage, and the Bengals should be able to move the ball. If the Patriots can score 40 against the Bengals, the Cincy offense will be winging it to keep up. And Cincy's receivers present matchup problems for the smurf-like Pats corners.

I expect this to be the closest Patriots game of the year, and believe the Bengals can put up 30 points. That gives Watson a reasonable chance to score and put up some yardage catching the ball underneath.

With the Bengals seemingly dissatisfied with Rudi for awhile now (Perry drafted, now Irons) and Rudi not doing a lot this year do you think Watson has a chance to take the job over for the year? And on that same note who is the player to own in this backfield for next year? Is it still Rudi or is Irons the better keeper at this point.

Gregg,

Not sure if it was your intention, but thanks anyway for responding to my question about Watson from your last blog entry.

In a PPR league, I don't know how you could go wrong using Watson this week. Featured back in a game that's likely to have a lot of scoring... so he'll get a lot of carries (if winning), or a lot of catches (if losing).

Hopefully, Palmer doesn't just ignore all of his RB's due to Rudi's mediocre receiving skills.

What I like about "They Killed" Kenny is the flexibility he provides this week. In leagues where you can adjust lineups up until the individual player's game starts, he is gold this week. Both backfields in the Sunday night game are in question, as is the other backfield on Monday night. Since news will be late on the playing status of Westbrook, D Ward, Jacobs, and Maroney, Kenny is a sweet last-minute substitute. Particularly if you're holding a backup like Buckhalter hoping Westbrook doesn't play, or Morris hoping Maroney doesn't play, or either of the Giants backs hoping the other doesn't play. If Westbrook or Maroney or both Giants are playing, Kenny would be an upgrade to those guys.

i need to start 3 of the following 4: dayne, leonard, cadillac, and watson. Which 3 should I start. Thx in advance

Speaking of the Bengals...

I'm in a very small league in which we can start two WR.

I've got TJ and Chad but I've also got Torry Holt. Nice problem to have, I know. So history shows that TJ outperforms Chad against the Patriots by a pretty solid margin... but the Pats are even tougher this year than in years past. But you mentioned that you think the Bengals can put up 30 on this Pats defense.

The Rams offense is a total mess, but Dallas' pass D isn't exactly world-class. I have to think they'll get Torry the ball -- especially with SJax out.

In a normal league, I wouldn't have to make picks like this. Which two of those three studs would you choose?

"I expect this to be the closest Patriots game of the year, and believe the Bengals can put up 30 points."

60% - at 3-0 you're already counting the pats as undefeated? and here i thought the ravens koolaid was the stoutest NFL brew around. those guys were certain they were superbowl-bound on account of schedule alone before the preseason even started. clearly the Roarin' Red Foxboro Splash is like moonshine.

will the pats lose more than once?

*smashes through wall*

"OH YEEEEAAAHHH"

Any chance that the Bengals will split carries evenly with both Watson and De De Dorsey, even though the latter has not been with the team long?
