Andre Johnson Injury

The Texans are saying Andre Johnson is unlikely to play this week against the Colts, but don't forget that it's only Monday. As we saw last week, things can change a few times in the span of a week.

Gary Kubiak on the matter:

Game Ball: Cedric Benson

Cedric Benson did what he had to on Sunday. He had a solid matchup at home and took advantage with 110 total yards against the Chiefs. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, 85 of those yards came after initial contact.

Benson's toughness has been questioned, so that final stat could show he was running with something to prove.

Perfect Picks Update

Two weeks down, and no one has nailed Perfect Picks in the NBC $100,000 challenge.

To win, you have to hit the highest scoring quarterback, running back, wide receiver and Sunday Night player each week. 17 people managed to get Jamal Lewis right on Sunday, but they missed the other picks. Lewis foiled 391 people that nailed the other three.

The week isn't over yet, though. If Brian Westbrook can outscore Lewis, then 11 intelligent Americans will win. I haven't hit Perfect Picks yet, but I'm safely in playoff position in the early going. Since we throw out your worst two weeks, it's not too late to sign up.

Who needs Dominic Rhodes?

One player I wasn't able to include in The Morning After was LaMont Jordan. If I could hand out "game balls" for all my fantasy teams, Jordan would probably have the most. He was drafted as a RB3 and is performing like a RB1.

Before the season, I wrote about Jordan's four game audition for a primary back role while Dominic Rhodes was suspended. He's exceeded all expectations as the top fantasy back thus far in PPR leagues, including 155 rushing yards Sunday against Denver.

Morning After

My two part Monday morning column, The Morning After, is up on the site in two fancy looking parts.

It's complete with all the lists of good, bad, and commitees that our short attention span minds crave on the web.

Eli's Moment?

You can say what you want about the Mannings, but they are impossible to keep out of a game. Eli Manning appears likely to keep his starting streak alive, a story I was skeptical about until NFL Network's Adam Shefter (one of the very best) backed up the local reports by saying Manning will start.

It's fantastic news for Plaxico Burress, Jeremy Shockey, and Derrick Ward. They are hardly guaranteed big games with Manning at less than 100% against a great defense, but they have a fighting chance now.

Rankings Update

I will post the updated Goal Line Stand tomorrow (the new rankings are already up in Season Pass, but here's a quickie recap on some of the midweek movement.

Defensive injuries mean offensive upgrades

The wide receivers for the Saints and 49ers are going to get upgraded slightly in our rankings because of injuries to their opposition this week. Brian Kelly, Tampa's oft-injured cornerback, looks to be out for the Bucs. Philip Buchanon is an accident waiting to happen, so look for better days from Marques Colston and Devery Henderson.

St. Louis' young cornerback Tye Hill is expected to miss 4-6 weeks with a back injury. Hill had consistency problems, but the Rams' poor cornerback depth is going to be exposed big time. Darrell Jackson, Arnaz Battle, and Alex Smith should all enjoy better days this week. St. Louis will be among my favorite matchups each week to pick on, along with Detroit.

Confusion in Tampa

It now looks like Cadillac Williams has a good chance to start for the Bucs on Sunday. He hasn't taken a hit all week, though, and rib injuries can easily be aggravated.

Unless Williams is inactive, I would just stay away from using any Tampa running back. The matchup against New Orleans is tempting, but it's not worth the risk. If Williams sits out, Michael Pittman is a better flex play.
