Falcons going down in flames

Our partner over at profootballtalk has the type of story we can't quite post at Rotoworld, but is definitely worth checking out.

For some more background, check out this story in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Requiem for a sleeper

Jacoby Jones caught three passes for 26 yards in his first NFL start. Now comes the bad news. Jones suffered a separated shoulder in the game and is out indefinitely. Wait for a timetable on his recovery, but Jones isn't worth holding on to in fantasy leagues if it's a long-term injury.

The Texans might be forced to start Kevin Walter and Andre' Davis at wideout next week. How the heck did Matt Schaub have a decent statistical day on Sunday?

Julius stays in near goal line

The Cowboys rushing game continues to frustrate owners. Twice tonight, the Cowboys got inside the five-yard line. Julius Jones stayed in the game both times.

He didn't get the score, but Marion Barber owners have to be frustrated. Neither Dallas runner is doing anything tonight, and they will continue to make difficult weekly decisions in fantasy leagues.

The Difference ...

Between Tony Romo and Rex Grossman, even when they are struggling.

Romo: 21 attempts, 183 yards, one interception

Grossman: 21 attempts, 84 yards, one interception

Romo is a yards-per-attempt monster. Even without Terry Glenn, this offense is enjoyably vertical.

Rams Panic Alert: Burnt Orange

Okay, I've poured some marginally old and questionably hot coffee and am ready to bang out the second half.

Rams owners like myself are panicking. Some sample questions from blog readers...

Should I drop Bulger and if so, who would be a good replacment? My other QB is Romo.
What's wrong with Bulger and the Rams? Are they done?

Don't even think of dropping Bulger. That question makes me think Bulger is a good buy low candidate if you can ship a QB2 for him (think Brett Favre).

Today's performance was amazingly ugly from Bulger. The 1999 Rams aren't coming back, and the 2006 Rams might not be either. But Bulger has been a top-ten fantasy quarterback in every one of his healthy seasons. The group around him is still solid except for the line. The Rams defense will still get the team in a lot of shootouts.

The numbers should eventually even out. Being patient is difficult, but it's the only option.

First Half Gameballs

1. Pat McQuistan - Not a great sign for the Dallas defense when McQuistan made the most memorable tackle of the season. How about those wheels!

2. Patrick Crayton - Owners probably benched him tonight, but I want to send a special thank you to Crayton for the 47 angry emails I'm about to receive after that dropped pass.

3. Robbie Gould - Underrated arm strength.

Beyond the Box Score

We need new stats, like lost touchdowns on balls that his receivers in the hands.

Bernard Berrian and Patrick Crayton should be awarded negative one touchdown Sunday night. Tony Romo and Rex Grossman should have one added to their total. Since most fans watch the night game, we all will keep these plays in mind when reviewing the box score.

But so many similar plays happen in each game around the country, and we can't possibly keep track of them all. Although we try on our Season Pass scoreboard.

That drop will cost some Tony Romo owners the win tonight. It's another example of how much soul-crushing luck is sometimes involved in fantasy football.

Rudi can fail

Rudi Johnson vs. the Seahawks: 17 rushes for nine yards!?!? Can't remember a day that bad.

Rudi Johnson left the game in the fourth quarter with a hamstring injury, and Kenny Watson came in to pound the ball nine times for 60 yards and a touchdown.

Rudi says the injury won't keep him out next week, although the Bengals may want to get Watson more involved. Rudi's declining overall play, including two lost fumbles this year, is becoming a concern for the Bengals. If Johnson is so confident, he probably didn't tear anything. But his body may be showing some wear and tear after a heavy workload the last three years.

Lee Evans BustWatch

Remember all that buy-low talk about Lee Evans? Well, now he's really low. Like maybe off the waiver wire. Evans was held to a seven-yard catch Sunday, and J.P. Losman may miss a few more weeks. Rookie Trent Edwards is the likely starter.

Reader John Williams asks:With Losman's injury sidelining him for some time, is it time to cut Lee Evans for a D. Bowe or Roddy White off the waiver wire?

I would not cut Evans in any league. Definitely not for those two. Bench Evans of course, but he's still a top-20 receiver waiting to happen for the second half of the season. Think long-term. Heck, I guess I still would buy low in a trade if I got Evans at rock bottom prices. Offer your WR6 or TE2 for him and see if Evans' owners jumps.

Big day for confusing injuries

Weird fantasy day because so many big fantasy stars were hurt, but the severity of the injuries are unclear. Let's review the players that were banged up Sunday.

Rudi Johnson
Ahman Green
Hines Ward
Vernon Davis
J.P. Losman
Brian Westbrook
Steve McNair
Carnell Williams
Frank Gore (He's fine)

Phew. All these situations will clear up through the week. Some are probably not serious, some are quite serious (Losman is probably out a few weeks). The Ward one concerns me because the Steelers were so vague after the game. This is going to be a huge week for grabbing the right people (the replacements) off the waiver wire.

Did I miss anymore?
