Top 15 Team Blogs

We can't get a blogroll working right now (someday), so here's the next best thing. Here are my 15 favorite NFL team blogs that I try to visit as often as possible. General NFL blogs don't apply. I'll get some flak for concentrating on mainstream media, but I'm a news junkie. I like information first, inside analysis next. Quality and quantity are both important, but highly inconsistent posters generally were overlooked. The ranking isn't that important; I just wanted to get the links out to everyone still hungry after visiting Rotoworld. Let's go...

15. Bucs Report on the Tampa Tribune

14. Mason's Morsels on DenverBroncos.com is one of two team website blogs to make the list. Consistent and often breaking information.

13. The Blue Screen - The NY Daily News' Giants blog. The amount of New York team blogs makes them hard to separate (Newsday is also solid), but this one stands out.

12. Palm Beach Post's Dolphins blog - Like the New York blogs, It's hard to seperate the multiple solid Dolphins blogs ( The South Florida Sun-Sentinel is great too), but this one goes the extra mile with live practice blogs and tape analysis.

11. The best blog on a team website is Inside the Bills by Chris Brown. Very consistent year-round.

10. Ravens Central - Not a huge volume of material, but the analysis from Mike Preston especially is excellent.

Is LJ a shaky play this week?

Kansas City heads to Houston in Week 1, which would normally be a cause of celebration for all Larry Johnson owners. But Herm Edwards made some telling comments Tuesday about limiting LJ's workload early in the year. And then continuing to limit it throughout the year. Here's Herm:

Cowher speaks!

Get ready for history. Live from Rotoworld headquarters, here is the first recorded liveblog of NFL Network's Point After, the underrated Monday (and others) presser show where Jim Mora screams about other coaches screaming. I plan on making it a weekly Monday feature, as much of the news of the week comes from these press conferences.

NFLN threw started getting away too much from the unfiltered coaches' press conferences, but you can still get a lot of useful information.

Giants/Cowboys & First Injury Report

Plaxico Burress was back at Giants practice Tuesday. Expect him to play in Week 1 against the Cowboys, and loook for a lot of scoring in that game. With Sam Madison and probably Terence Newman sitting out, these are two of the worst defensive backfields in the NFL.

I look for a lot of blitzes to make up for it, and enough big plays to make Eli Manning, Burress, Tony Romo, Patrick Crayton solid plays this week.

As I'm typing this, the first injury report crossed my path. We're getting close!

Remember that injury reports now only come out on Friday. Until then, we'll just know if a player practice, didn't practice, or was limited in practice.

Quick waiver hitters

In the interest of pleasing the crowd, let's mow through some of the request for waiver pickups with an arbitrary limit on how long I can write on each (or I'll go on forever). Let's say 20 words or less.

Michael Robinson - Only in deep leagues if you own Frank Gore.

Bobby Wade - No way. Too long of a track record of mediocrity.

Kevin Jones - Should be owned in even in 8 team leagues with small rosters. Go get him Andy!

Tony Hunt

It's a quiet news day, like most Tuesdays. So let's stay on the Waiver theme and look at some players I couldn't jam into the column today. James asked about Tony Hunt of the Eagles.

Hunt is a player I love in dynasty leagues. For 2007, his redraft value may be limited unless Brian Westbrook gets hurt. With Correll Buckhalter more likely to get regular work, Hunt's only value would come in a touchdown only league. Hunt may vulture 4-6 scores, and that's worth enough for him to make the roster. Other than that, you can probably do better for a reserve pick.

Jesse's World

Thanks for the feedback on Waiver Wired, which is up. Between some Season Pass work (coming today, people) and Tuesday's Fix, I didn't have time to add Jesse Chatman. Until now.

Chatman's talent level is is suspect, but he knows Cam Cameron's system and is going to get carries. If I was forced to use a waiver pickup in my Week 1 lineup for some reason (and good luck if you do), Chatman would get the call over Kenton Keith, Selvin Young, and the rest. That doesn't mean he'll be a better prospect over the full season than Young because the Miami offense is suspect, but he's certainly safer. For now, he looks like a competent RB4. Anyone that gets carries is worth owning over the Maurice Morris' of the world.

It comes down to what your team is looking for. On a thin roster where you need depth to possibly use for bye weeks, Chatman is a good pickup. If you are four strong at running back, I'd go with a higher ceiling back like Young or possibly Keith.

And thanks for being patient Pancake Blockers, the blog will be humming consistently all week long, including a Thursday Night liveblog

Waiver Wired

I'm working on the first Waiver Wired this morning, and getting our Season Pass package live. Let me know if there's anyone you want to see covered in Wired.

Cut day roundup

I don't have much time today, as I've promised my wife the last Sunday I'll be around for the next 22 weeks or so. Especially after I spent most of Saturday drafting my NFFC team, then helping Patrick Dahl on the nearly 200 posts from cut day.

Most of our thoughts on the cuts are in the news, it's a better blog than Pancake Blocks will ever be, but here are the ones you should be aware about. Remember that the next two days will bring a lot more cuts as roster shuffling continues and some players find new homes.
