Worst Draft Decision Ever?
Last Thursday, I witnessed the worst fantasy football draft decision I've ever seen. It happened in a league that I'm participating in for work. Tiffany Simons, Superhuman Intern David Bandermark, and I are representing NBCSports.com in the league.
It's the tenth and eleventh round turn, and one of the teams that is run by people that don't read Rotoworld is on the clock. With their first pick, the team takes Nate Kaeding. Groans erupt from the crowd. Way too early from a kicker.
Then the unthinkable happens. With their next pick, they take ... (drumroll) ... Jeff Wilkins. Silence. Shudders. Bile.
I didn't know whether to laugh, cry, throw something at the owners, or light up a cigar.
After much debate, the owners have been allowed to stay in the league and are recovering well.
It got me thinking: What's the worst decision/moment you've ever seen at a draft?

I'm in a keeper league where, if you decide to keep a player, you forfeit the round he was drafted in the previous year. Last year, one guy took Hasselbeck in the 2nd round. This year, he kept him, giving up his 2nd rd pick, which is much higher than he would be drafted. If that weren't enough, in keeping Hasselbeck, he decided against keeping Vince Young, who would have cost a 16th rd pick.

I played in a league with a group of friends. We changed from a redraft league to a partial keeper league. We allowed 5 keepers per team. I dropped Larry Johnson (when he was still a backup to Priest Holmes) and assumed my fellow league members were not paying enough attention to know about Larry (I had won the league championship two years in a row) and that I would be able to pick him up again......stupid me. One of the other guys picked him up and beat me with that team in the league championship game.....on account of a monster game by Larry.

i could list a lot over the last 5 years, but here's the most recent.
ok, in a 10 team draft on sunday evening in a league of 5 diehards, 2 casual players, and 3 of their wives (dont laugh, one of them is really good - made the championship only to lose to yours truly last season).
anyways, i had the 1 pick, and here's how the first 2 rounds went:
1.1 LT
1.2 Peyton
1.3 Jackson
1.4 Alexander
1.5 Westbrook (ok, maybe)
1.6 Brees (what? - by this point i had already told everyone it was the weirdest draft ever - it gets worse)
1.7 Reggie Bush (what??)
1.8 LJ (WHAT?)
1.9 J. Addai (good pick)
1.10 Tom Brady (whatever)
2.1 M. Harrison (QB/WR 1/2??)
2.2 S. Smith (like it)
2.3 F. Gore (WHAT IN HELL???)
i could continue, there was a lot more weirdness (gates in the 2nd, maybe justifiable; romo and eli in the 3rd)
the main reason i posted this is because the guy with the 8th freaking pick got LJ and Gore. oh, and he went on to get maroney.
in the 3rd.
i was reveling in my team (McNabb, LT, Jacobs, TO, Andre Johnson, Santana Moss, Vernon Davis, Chicago D)
then i took a look at the most ridiculous backfield ever, and wonder how my friends can possibly be dumb enough to LET A WOMAN DRAFT LJ, GORE, AND MARONEY when she has the 8th overall pick.
i am ashamed to admit that even with LT on my squad, i am terrified of this lady's team.

ignore the default "he" pronoun references up there. force of habit, i don't play against women in any of my other leagues. i promise, she's a woman.
her name's Laurie. she's pretty cute, too. too bad most of the good ones are taken, gents.

Someone in our league took Chad Johnson #1 overall this year. #1. I was completely stunned.

I have you all beat. Last year in a Yahoo league I was in someone took Pittsburgh's defense with their FIRST pick, #5 overall. Then for his second round pick took Hines Ward. The best part? This was a Yahoo "winner" league.
