Is Randy Moss a concern?

Bill Belichick has successfully trained the media in Boston that injuries are a part of life, and shouldn't be in the headlines.
That's why an All-Pro like Richard Seymour can miss all training camp, and no one says a peep. Even Randy Moss' injury has received relatively little attention considering his fame. So should fantasy leaguers be concerned?
Absolutely if Moss doesn't play this week's game. It's not like Moss is a veteran who knows the Patriots system and has proven he can turn it on anytime. Two years ago, when the Vikings repeatedly said dealt Moss, they believed that injuries would become an increasing problem for Moss as he got older. He isn't known for taking care of his body, and his hamstring troubles have been a problem since October of 2005.
If Moss can't get on the field for the most important preseason game, it tells me he's not a lock to play in Week 1. And if he does play in Week 1 without any preseason work, it could take Moss a few weeks to build up his snap count.
I'm not downgrading Moss yet, but this month has made him an even bigger boom-or-bust pick.

Nice observation. Ive barely heard a word on the Moss injury. Didnt even know there were any issues with Seymour. Im staying away from Moss unless he's still there in late rounds.

Moss is too volatile for me to justify having him as anything more than a WR3.
Let's be realistic. Everyone who sees/hears his name remembers what he did in Minnesota. Key word, DID.
2003. The last time Moss was impressive was 2003.
'04, Moss had a decent year, but the injury bug started to rear its head and he missed 3 games. Finished the year with 13 TDS but only 49 receptions.
'05, Moss debuts with the Raiders. Manages only60 catches and barely cracks 1000 yards in 15 games. Hardly "superstar" numbers.
'06, Moss decides he is too good to play for the Raiders, and ostensibly stops exerting effort. Gets benched. Amasses.... 42 catches for 553 yards. Swell. That's... slightly better than Troy Williamson's numbers.
The fact that he now plays in New England doesn't suddenly turn back the clock. Moss is still washed up, he's just washed up in a new town.
I'm with Zach. If Moss is there after rd. 6 (he won't be), i'd have no problem taking him as a WR3. but i like to have all-or-nothing kind of players at WR3. But learn from the mistakes of the people who drafted him high the last 2 years. Don't take this guy as a WR1, and if you take him as a 2, prepare to get burned.

and before you simpletons pull out the "he didn't have a QB in Oakland, blah blah blah" argument....
talk to me about Steve Smith, Andre Johnson, Lee Evans, Roy Williams, or any of the other stud receivers who have found a way to excel despite lacking an elite QB.

Yea, everyone wants Randy Moss in the Patriots to be a great story. Even I do. I think there are two outlooks for Moss that people take. One being "Brady to Moss...makes perfect sense". The other being that people like the storybook effect of a Moss revival, people fall for that stuff all the time. I dont fall for either one. I dont think the Pats really cater to Moss's game. I dont remember them really ever stretching the field...maybe thats because they've never had that type of reciever in recent years (wait, Bethel Johnson...didnt work out well). While drafting a player for the sake of rooting for his comeback may be fun, I dont find it sensible. I see him being VERY hot and cold, but more often cold. The hot will make people drool and start saying "told you so!". Adam Schefter will make comments about how Al Davis never knew how to use him. Sportscenter will air some 15 minute special about the pure frustration of the black hole stealing all of Moss's light and how he's not the Moss of old, but the Moss that always should have been. People will start him for three straight weeks only to find themselves betrayed by the very person that made them feel so smart for taking him in round 3.

Randy Moss will either be in the Pro Bowl this year or out of Football next year!

RANDY MOSS - yea what now hes messin every CB up, nobody can stop him. hes the best of our generation, and he will break jerry rices 21 TD catch record. and he has aslways been good, just because he had a bad QB in Oakland for 2 years is why he did so bad, but look at him now with a GREAT QB hes fantastic, better than T.O.- Chad J. Marvin Harrison, you name them, even jerry rice. no disrespect to them but randy is the man. never doubt 81
hes a Hall of fame WR. anyone diagree? look at his numbers for god sakes, hes tearing up every secondary, and hes not just going deep like he did with minnesota, hes getting the ball for 15 yard gains, and hes turning them into 25-30 yeard gains. say hello to another probowl RANDY MOSS!!!
