Value in Oakland

Scott, one of our most valuable commenters, posted that he thinks Ronald Curry is undervalued. Anyone that's used our cheat sheets this season knows that Rotoworld agrees. There seems to be a point in every one of my drafts that Curry is the highest ranked player on the board.

I decided to check out Curry's ADP, along with the rest of the Raiders because it's clearly a team in transition.

LaMont Jordan: RB35, round seven
Dominic Rhodes: RB48, round twelve

Jerry Porter: WR41, round ten
Ronald Curry: WR46, round twelve

Daunte Culpepper: QB32, fifteenth-round

Michael Turner Overdrive

I got an email today Jeff Schizas wondering where he should draft Michael Turner. He's an Tomlinson owner and is willing to reach a bit for insurance.

Jeff - I agree it's worth reaching if you own Tomlinson. Turner's current ADP is RB41, which puts him late in the ninth round. That means you may have to take him in the eighth/ninth-round turn of your draft, assuming you have the ninth pick. Any earlier than that is reaching too far; let someone else overpay for a player not likely to play much.

Turner's recent ankle injury isn't a huge concern, because he is insurance for the long haul, not just the first two weeks of the season.

I'll be back in a few hours for more ADP analysis

Redskins RBs

Here's how the Redskins running backs are being drafted.

Clinton Portis - RB18, mid-third round
Ladell Betts - RB36, eighth round

Surprising developments here. Portis is falling, but not as much as one would expect. He is still being taken ahead of Thomas Jones and Brandon Jacobs. I am a risk taker, and can't get too carried away with this evaluation when I'd probably go for it in the fourth round.

Why I'm not taking defense early

Here are the top five team defenses according to average draft position, and the rounds they are being taken.

Bears - Round six
Ravens - Early round seven
Chargers - Late round eight
Patriots - Early round nine
Steelers - Round eleven

ADP Questions

If you have an ADP question about any of the players or battles in fantasy football you want answered today, let me know in the comments below.

The new column should have some answers. Tuesday's Fantasy Fix is also up. We will also be hosting another live show tomorrow at 1PM if you want to call in.

Norwood, Dunn ADP tightening

I am tackling some Average Draft Position (ADP) information in my column today, but I thought it was worth re-visiting some other trends on the blog for a final time before we truly get ready for Week 1. All the ADP information was created by averaging the publicly available ADP feeds at MockDraftCentral.com, AntSports.com, and MyFantasyleague.com.

Let's start with a final look at the Atlanta running backs.

Jerious Norwood (RB29, 66 overall)
Warrick Dunn (RB39, 99 overall)

Worst Draft Decision Ever?

Last Thursday, I witnessed the worst fantasy football draft decision I've ever seen. It happened in a league that I'm participating in for work. Tiffany Simons, Superhuman Intern David Bandermark, and I are representing NBCSports.com in the league.

It's the tenth and eleventh round turn, and one of the teams that is run by people that don't read Rotoworld is on the clock. With their first pick, the team takes Nate Kaeding. Groans erupt from the crowd. Way too early from a kicker.

Then the unthinkable happens. With their next pick, they take ... (drumroll) ... Jeff Wilkins. Silence. Shudders. Bile.

Action Jackson

Almost got through the day without talking about Brandon Jackson. Based on a few comments and emails, owners are probably too concerned about his recent concussion. Jackson spoke with Green Bay reporters Tuesday, and was in good spirits. He said the mental tests he's taken after his concussion have improved each day.

After this summer of concussion news, I don't want to trivialize the injury. But the reality is that players don't usually sit out two weeks, especially when they are called "mild" concussions. Jackson should start Week 1 against Philadelphia. Whether he plays well or not is another matter.

Bills concerned about offense?

J.P. Losman has the benefit of a Tulane education, but he still has a confusing way of getting his point across.

We talked about it with Steve (Fairchild) in practice the other day. We said, 'We're better than we thought we were going to be, but we're not as far along as we thought we would be.' So it's kind of contrasting right now. We're not as sharp as we want to be, but we are better than we thought we could be. That is a dangerous thing, so we do need our coaches to stay on us and harp on us all the time to not let us slack and players need to own up and take that responsibility on themselves as well.

Money Time

It's come to my attention that there are people out there who haven't signed up for our free $100,000 Fantasy Challenge Game. Which doesn't make sense. It's like getting a new fantasy team each week, and it's going to make the Sundays a lot more interesting.

I recently was cajoled into signing up for a high-stakes fantasy league drafting this weekend in New York that has a $100,000 prize. Believe me, it's not free to play. And it won't have sweet weekly columns by Pat Dahl, which are worth the price of admission. It definitely won't have a fancy looking and easy-to-use page for making picks that our hard working programmers knocked out of the park.

So play the game, outsmart America, and try to win some money. I'll shut up now.
