Did Quinn's game matter?
There were a few interesting stories I couldn't tackle in today's Daily Dose, so let's go over them here.
Starting with Brady Quinn. A few readers and friends have the idea that I don't like Brady Quinn, and were quick to notify me about his performance Saturday. One, I like Quinn just fine. I thought Russell was a fine pick ahead of him is all. Two, Saturday's effort means slightly more than nothing.
He still isn’t going to be their Week 1 starter. The Browns don’t want to throw him to the wolves against a tough schedule, and he hasn’t been prepared yet. Quinn, playing as a fourth-stringer behind Ken Dorsey, put up two touchdowns playing against a prevent defense played by Detroit’s fourth-stringers.
"Any one of those guys could've gone in and did what I did based on the situation," said Quinn. "You're not running a difficult package."
Good answer, Brady!
Quinn needs to get as much meaningful playing time as possible the next two weeks, so he’s as prepared to take over for Charlie Frye or Derek Anderson during the season. Frye and Anderson have struggled all month, and Frye looks like the favorite by default. Quinn will get his shot midway through the year barring a dramatic turnaround by the Cleveland offense.

Comments
Quinn had some nice numbers, but most of his passes were short ones to running backs -- and as Gregg mentioned, against a third string prevent defense. That makes it all the more annoying that the big sports network is making such a big deal about Quinn's debut. He played well, but let's keep the performance in context.
