Chiefs-Browns Notes

Croyle losing starting job?

It's a quiet news day, so let's empty out the notebook before the second week of the preseason starts. I was looking forward to this game because these teams have true quarterback battles. It's mid-August, and it's legitimately a 50-50 call for both teams. This game didn't help.

Chiefs vs. Browns

* This game was Charlie Frye in a nutshell. He played better than Derek Anderson, but made two crushing mental errors that erased his progress. A poor pass he threw to Jerome Harrison was actually a lateral and returned for a touchdown. He tried to run for a touchdown at the end of the first half and time ran out, costing his team three points.

He made some nice scrambles and throws, but he makes a lot of errors for a quarterback once compared to Bernie Kosar, the king of managing the game.

* Anderson was hurt by a key drop, but he made a couple of ugly throws. He's had a big opportunity this month, and hasn't grabbed it. Big game for him this weekend.

* Jerome Harrison was also at fault on Frye's lateral. He didn't try to pick up the ball, a huge mental error. Then he fumbled his next carry. Harrison started the game with a bunch of nifty moves, showing his potential. I think the Browns are going to have to live with the errors because he brings an explosive element lacking in Jamal Lewis and Jason Wright.

* Kellen Winslow looked fine, targeted on the first two passes, with one catch. Just a remarkable recovery from microfracture surgery. I was wrong this summer on that one.

* Brodie Croyle imploded. There's no other way to say it. He's young, but he did the same thing in the preseason and regular season last year when given the chance. His first plays included a near interception, a fumble, and then a blind throw for an interception on a Aaron Brooks-like 15-step drop. He needs some success in game action fast. After seeing his wife on Hard Knocks, though, I don't feel too bad for him.

* Kolby Smith ran too side-to-side on his carries, always looking for the big play. That's not his reputation, so hopefully it changes next week. Michael Bennett had some huge holes to run through and looked solid.

* With Jeff Webb out, Samie Parker was still starting. And underwhelming. Chris Hannon and Parker both had bad drops. Dwayne Bowe should get this starting job right away.

Vikings vs. Rams

* I was only watching the Vikings offense to see Tarvaris Jackson. I had already read the reports that said Jackson had a composed, efficient performance. I don't have much to add to that. His accuracy was good, although he didn't hit any longer passes. He barely attempted them. It was a positive step, but a very small one.

Croyle imploding? C´mon man, you can´t be serious. How would you describe Huard´s performance then? On his first 2-3 tries, he badly overthrew twice, leading to 1 interception, too.
However, Croyle had some nice scenes, too. Can´t say that about Huard.

Didnt get a change to see Croyle's wife. However, I have seen Tiffany on the fantasy fix. While you were handing out crazy Al Saunders & Jason Campbell propaganda (where did that even come from Gregg? I havent heard you mention them all summer really...I bet in his first game he throws an INT for every "g" you have in your name...honestly who's name is 60% the letter "g" anyways?), I was checking out that babe to your right. Tell her I said "how you doin?"

haha... 60% the letter g.
that's damn funny.

I always tell people my rap name is 60% G - no lie. and i really see improvement coming from the passing game in Washington. maybe i should talk about them more.

60 Percent...

Jason Campbell or Byron Leftwich as a back-up to Kitna and week 6 BYE fill-in?

Thanks.

If Winslow "looked fine" should he bumped up to tier 2 TE?

Can we please return to more important matters like the overall hotness quotient of Croyle's wife? I'm with "60% G" on that call baby, that woman is fine but with a southern accent of Daisy Duke proportions. Either way, I don't care, giddyap

and watch as she becomes among the hottest searches on the net in the next few weeks. That's all I have to say about that...
