Brandon Jones: Sleeping

I'll admit that Brandon Jones has been one of my favorite "sleepers" since I first saw him play in 2005. He has great hands and superior physical skills. While James Jones has ripped through the preseason this year, I tried to think of another similar preseason star at wideout, and Brandon Jones was the first that came to mind.

Jones' development was slowed by a torn ACL as a rookie, but he looked to be on track to be the number one receiver in Tennessee this year. The local papers have hinted around at a disappointing summer, and Jeff Fisher confirmed it last night. Roydell Williams and Eric Moulds started at wideout.

Williams, a Tulane alum like myself, led Tennessee in receiving Friday with four catches for 68 yards. That performance probably locked up a Week 1 starting gig, but you can never be sure with Jeff Fisher.

Either way, it's clear the shine is off Brandon Jones' sleeper status. I'd still draft him, but we've downgraded him to No. 52 at wideout in the online draft guide after this news. I'd still bet on him leading the Titans in receiving by year's end, but the pie may be split too many ways on a weak passing attack for any of the other wideouts to matter in redraft leagues. Williams is suddenly on the radar, but I can't recommend taking him either except in the deepest of leagues. Unless you went to Tulane.

I know you probably read some of my stuff. I like your posts. Even though I may dis-agree some times. I have a question for you or anyone! Who should I pick up! Roddy williams, brandon jones, or devery henderson? Henderson is the most appealing obviously but he may miss week 1 with hammy and they linger.

Roddy White or roydell williams? I think Henderson is the best pick here.

roydell williams the guy for titans. I figure someone has to catch vince passes and they have no true number 1. Henderson is on the waiver wire hope I get him but highly doubt it.

Hey Jacob,
I'm with Gregg...try to snag Henderson if possible. Brees will make his numbers the best out of the group you mentioned. I'm assuming this is just for depth anyway, so hopefully the minor injury won't matter. Good luck.

Yes depth I am always looking for that dark horse as I landed colston last season and a few others. Well thank you for your input!

Gregg - Which Rotoworlder is responsible for the blurb on the player news page about the Jags cutting Leftwich? And did that person actually read the piece linked to in the FT-U? The columnist did not report that the Jags are actually considering cutting Leftwich - he merely wrote that they SHOULD consider cutting him if he is going to be on such a short leash since his salary is so high.

I think it's kind of irresponsible for Rotoworld to report that the team is actually considering cutting him, when this was clearly just one columnist's suggestion/opinion. Leftwich has had a good camp and has actually been named the Week 1 starter.

It seems like you have Eric Moulds way too low. Not that he's particularly useful in fantasy leagues, but 85th?

Given his Veteran experience and hands -- and the fact that he's coming off a 57 catch season for a terrible offense -- he's probably more likely to lead the team in catches and yards than Jones or Williams.

By the way, when you update your rankings/projections, it doens't seem to be reflected on my custom scoring system in the draft guide. Is that bug or something I'm doing wrong? (e.g. while Patrick Crayton now is projected for more catches and yards and more fantasy points and ppr points than Jones, my custom scoring system still has Jones scoring more than Crayton).
