Titans add Eric Moulds to Quagmire

I don't blame the Titans for signing Eric Moulds. He's a player on the downside of his career, but 138 catches over the last two seasons cannot be ignored. Tennessee's entire roster of wideouts except David Givens (who may not play this year) barely has that many catches over their combined careers.
Moulds' 9.95 yards-per-catch during 2005-2006 also can't be ignored. That's a figure that indicates he couldn't make Jeff Fisher miss in the open field. His dial-up speed is why two wideout-needy teams have dumped him in two years, in addition to his formerly high salary. Moulds isn't guaranteed to make the Titans, but he will give Vince Young a target who will run his routes correctly. The same probably can't be said for Brandon Jones, Roydell Williams, Courtney Roby, and the Tennessee rookies.
We've written a lot about the receiver competition in Tennessee, which is now a quagmire. Moulds' signing makes it less likely that any receiver other than Brandon Jones will emerge as a fantasy sleeper. We'll project Moulds for roughly 35 catches, taking production mostly from Williams and Roby.
I won't consider drafting whoever wins the starting job, even in deep redraft leagues. Singing Moulds in is an indication that Jeff Fisher is just as worried about the Titans receivers as we are.
Update: Roydell Williams is believed to be the leader in the clubhouse for the starting job.

having a veteran around who knows and can teach the rookies how to run proper routes is invaluable to a team as well.
good locker room guys are worth their weight in gold.

In my opinion the biggest winner here is Vince young. Moulds should know how to get open when he is running around. Plus As dubble said it should help the young wrs develop

i'm gonna go ahead and say that if Moulds makes it to the regular season, he'll be 4th at best on the depth chart. having him as a mentor makes sense, signing him to start and deny your promising youngsters that experience would be ridiculous. i'm know his football knowledge/experience are valuable, but as Gregg pointed out, only 9.95 YPC valuable on the field. you'll have a hard time convincing me that any of his physical ablities are still on the level of any of TN's young guys.

Maybe he'll help the young guys learn. But Moulds has a bit of a rep as a whiner for getting the ball. I think thats a big reason why houston and buff dropped him - he was a pain in the ass.
