Stanton Injury Impact

Kitna owners can breathe a little easier
This morning I posted a blurb on J.T. O'Sullivan having a chance to finally stick as a backup quarterback after joining the Lions - his seventh franchise. He's taking on Dan Orlovsky to be Jon Kitna's backup.
O' Sullivan's chances of making the Lions increased dramatically Monday after Drew Stanton found out he needed surgery. Matt Millen keeps calling it a tweak, but Stanton is expected to miss "at least" a month.
It remains to be seen if the Lions will keep Stanton on their active roster for the whole season. He's not eligible for the PUP list, so keeping Stanton would likely require keeping four quarterbacks on the roster early in the year. Stanton was already struggling to pick up Mike Martz's offense, like any rookie would, and this injury ruins any chance he has to play this year.
Barring a trade, Orlovsky and O'Sullivan will duke it out to be Kitna's backup. Kitna's fantasy value is slightly more secure with Stanton on the shelf. As a Kitna owner, I've worried that the Lions could go to the rookie in December if Detroit falls out of contention. That probably won't happen now.
