Linked: Russell getting ready?
Welcome if you are reading the fantasy mill for the first time on profootballtalk.com. If you are reading on Rotoworld, you can take a peek at our new Fantasy Mill at PFT.
A few morning links that didn't make the morning news ...

Why do I get the feeling that Lane Kiffin is preparing us for JaMarcus Russell to start in September?
"JaMarcus looked really good (Monday)," coach Kiffin said. "Without going back to watch the film, it was JaMarcus' best practice since he's been here."
I'm not touching any Raiders quarterback in fantasy leagues this year, but Russell will be projected to make about 12 starts.
A.J. Smith says these are the type of high-class problems the Patriots have, and still succeed despite.
“There will be a point in time – the better we get – that someone is leaving,” Smith. said. “The more success you have the more money you have to pay. They all think it's them. And they want their money.”
Of course the Patriots are also a lot more humble. The Chargers are loaded, but so is the front of their schedule. They start with Chicago and New England.
Branch is taking a lot of heat considering he missed "voluntary" work to be on his honeymoon. Having replaced Darrell Jackson at flanker, Branch is set up to have his first 1,000-yard season as a pro. He could be a decent value in fantasy leagues after a down year.
I'm going to polish off a column for Rotoworld this afternoon and get some work done on our magazine, but will be back for a fantasy breakdown on the Jeff Garcia-Chris Simms news before the day is up.

Comments
The fact that San Diego brass mention themselves in the same breath as the New England franchise is laughable. The Patriots have an established track record of success that players want to be a part of, and in some cases are willing to make less money to be a part of. San Diego is no where near that point now. New England's staff is able to "coach up" moderately talented players to bring the overall team performance up. It does not seem as though San Diego has coached up anyone. They have drafted well with their high picks panning out quite well, but that probably has more to do with scouting good players than lifting the abilities of lesser players.

true. but you've gotta start somewhere. and drafting well is always the first step.
we'll see how the bounce back season goes... they should have at least one title under their belts before they start talking about having similar problems as new england.
