Rookie Dynasty Rankings: DLs

I'll rank keeper league prospects at DL, LB, and DB this week, combining them on Friday with a Top 40 overall rookie rankings. Today, let's look at the linemen.

I'm not into drafting linemen in dynasty leagues, at least not the four-round, 48-player draft in my league. The reason? Huge risk, marginal upside. It's so hard to find offensive talent in dynasty leagues, whereas a serviceable defensive line starter is only a waiver pick away. It's a position that takes time to develop in the NFL, time that isn't worth spending in dynasty leagues. Only a few linemen coming out are difference makers in fantasy leagues each year, and many times they are players like Mark Anderson that come out of nowhere.

With that said, here is my look at the 2007 class. We are listing Anthony Spencer, LaMarr Woodley, and Lawrence Timmons as linebackers. Draft them as DEs if your league allows it.

2007 IDP DL Rankings

1. Jamaal Anderson, Falcons – Starting from day one, his speed should be a hit on turf.

2. Gaines Adams, Bucs – The Bucs groom pass rushers. You’ll have to wait a year for Adams, but he’s a decent bet to become a 10-sack player.

3. Dan Bazuin, Bears – Chicago’s system creates stars and Alex Brown looks likely to move on after 2007.

4. Quentin Moses, Raiders – The opportunity is there. Moses may start as a rookie for a terrific defensive coordinator on the same line as Derrick Burgess and Warren Sapp. We’re just not convinced Moses is big enough and his senior year slump is a concern.

5. Charles Johnson, Panthers – There is opportunity not so far down the road to start opposite Julius Peppers.

6. Jarvis Moss, Broncos – A pure pass-rusher, the Broncos haven’t had a good one since Trevor Pryce. He’ll take time to develop.

7. Alan Branch, Cardinals – My favorite defensive tackle in the draft because of his skill set and opportunity.

8. Amobi Okoye, Texans – It’s rare that a pass-rushing defensive tackle makes a big fantasy impact.

9. Adam Carriker, Rams – Playing at defensive tackle will limit his numbers. He reminds us of Richard Seymour, who still isn’t a good fantasy option despite his All-Pro status.

10. Tim Crowder, Broncos – Could evolve into a solid starter at defensive end for Denver.

11. Victor Abiamiri, Eagles – Has a lot players in front of him in Philadelphia.

wtf? Justin Harrell was a top-ten pick before the injury... and he's a hard worker, high motor kind of player.

There's some concern that he will be more of a blocker-occupying DT, but his size, power, elite punch, will lead to numerous tackle opportunities in run-stuffing.

PLUS- he wont see double teams w/Pickett next to him and KGB/Jenkins/Kampman on the outsides.

In a yr or two, if he builds a pass rush to go along w/his run-stuffing, he could be one of the better DT's in the league.

GO PACK!
